I was lucky my daughter bought me an afternoon tea for two as a birthday treat. The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon is a lovely setting for afternoon tea. The room is bright and airy and there is a lovely ambience. You have a choice of afternoon tea, savoury afternoon tea, high tea and vegetarian afternoon tea. We both had the afternoon tea which came with a variety of sandwiches, all very tasty, plain and fruit scones (although unfortunately our fruit scones were sadly lacking raisins) and a selection of mini patisserie. The scones were accompanied by clotted cream, strawberry preserve and lemon curd. We thought the scones were delicious, very fluffy on the inside. Both the strawberry preserve and the lemon curd were very nice but we thought the scones seemed to go better with the preserve. You also get a choice of a slice of cake from the trolley. The banana loaf was delicious, not too sweet. My slice of chocolate cake I took home as I was stuffed by then. You also have a good choice of tea to choose from. The peach black tea was light and refreshing. The fortmason was more robust. Service was very friendly and polite. All in all a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
