I just completed an inventium innovation survey . I applaud your effort for trying to quantify key drivers for innovation and model these to successful business practices.
However I am left with the opinion that the questions were written by people who have a limited understanding of the mental processes used by inventors. Subsequently, this survey can only be useful for determining the effectiveness of incremental innovation. Incremental innovation can only prop up a business. It is radical game-changing inventions that create new business.
You need to understand why the worlds greatest inventors needed more than an understanding of their respective technology. Teaching them a system for innovation would be nothing more than a waste of their time. The ability to invent is wired into the brain of a minority of the population. The crucial driver of radical innovation is an ability to visualize 3 dimensional concepts inside the mind. This often extends to an ability to see a conceptual process working before it even exists.
For example, an inventor may have a concept for a new type of circuit in his mind. He can see the circuit board before he has designed and built it. He can also see the electricity flowing on the board and can see where failures may occur. Unfortunately, this ability to conceptualize also goes hand in hand with dyslexia.
