Sonja Broze Review of Five Palms Restaurant

They have done a nice job with the capacity restrictions here leveraging the lawn for table space. Being able to hear the water while eating is nice and I bet this place is epic before and at sunset. The host was cheery and pleasant, our server was very knowledgeable and easily answered my detailed questions on wine and my dish, though a touch too pushy on up-selling. The bussers were, ummm, untrained perhaps. Rather than setting water glasses, plates, etc on the table they kind of dropped them like they were mad or upset, and not just one but two of them, definitely disturbing to the experience. The food was nice for the price, but not great, I think you pay more for the view and would suggest happy hour instead. The filet was the highlight, it was a touch over cooked (more medium than medium rare) but it was tender and full of flavor, my guess is sous vide. The lobster was good, little low on flavor but it was atlantic so expected. My Ahi alone was fabulous, perfectly prepared, there were just a lot of flavors going on with perfect amount wasabi mashed potatoes, the bold in flavor togarashi sauce and then the basically onion and tomato salsa. It blended nicely but over powered the fish for me.
