My father was admitted with COVID and during his 23 day stay, did not receive the 4+ star rating that I have seen here. Over the course of 23 days he received 3 showers, however I am not sure what the hygiene protocol is for COVID patients, so maybe this is par for the course. He was never checked for skin breakdown (had he been showered, staff would have checked the skin), never rolled him q2h (every two hours) which is necessary for those non-mobile for various medical reasons (age playing a factor as well).
The staff misdiagnosed his oral thrush, even though he stated he thought he had thrush, they treated him for dry mouth due to oxygen intake and instructed for him to drink more water. After three days, it was determined he had oral thrush, but by this point the sores in his mouth made it difficult to eat or drink. This has carried over, post discharge.
On day 24, he showed up at Carrus Specialty Hospital for rehabilitation with decubitus Ulcers
(bed sores). This was relayed to us by the attending physician (fun).
For a 77 year old veteran of the armed forces, with several pre-existing conditions, who battled COVID and Pneumonia for 23 days, it s shameful he had to battle without ADLs or simple care with compassion as well.
The final insult to literal injury, came from the thoughtful billing department who harangued him, incessantly, to pay his bill while he was on the ICU step down unit (most fun).
I wish I could post a 4+ star rating, I truly do. At this point, I hope I never get admitted here. Just my $0.02
