Surprisingly uninspiring, with beyond ordinary service. Lobster dumplings - nice but bland; soup dumplings - only one option available and only seafood, I had better in ChinaTown. Dough too thick, stuffing could have been anything. Pandan leaf and oatmeal squid sounded appetizing, but wasn't. No taste of pandan to speak of, I was left with the feeling that someone accidentally spilt half of box of cereal into it. It would be like eating cardboard if it wasn't for overabundance of frying oil in the squid, and my use of chilli sauce on the side. Even the dipping sauces were bland, so below par. It is the service, Michelin star expectations or not, that truly shocked. Unfriendly, formal - front desk matron, more Spanish inquisition (with suitable accent and expression) than welcome party. Waiter, so formal "madam" no smile style. Took at least 15min to get any attention to even place a drink order, don't know if it is because I chose to sit in the bar area tables, as main room is very boring and unatmospheric, it shouldn't matter. From the time the food, quite literally, gets dumped in front of you, nobody shows any interest in the clients at all, I made a point to observe the whole bar section. Worse still, for some reason squid came before soup dumplings, they came 2min later, so something was going to go cold before one gets to anything. One got a feeling it is all about churning out cover after cover, focus on profit. Nobody came by the table at all till the food was finished, nobody asked if I would want any wine with the food, or more food, they just asked "is that finished?", I said yes, pointing to the glaringly empty plates, no offer of more food or drink - the guy just started grabbing sauces and plates off the table! I was bit shocked and by then ready to get out of there! I am surprised, for owners' sake, at the complete absence of any effort to upsell anything, not even second cocktail. I would have gladly been persuaded. No thank you or smile upon leaving either, in case you are wondering - though there were 3 ladies in bright blue dresses and the aforementioned matron standing at the exit. At least one of them was kind enough to ask for my coat tag, no smile and formal "here is your coat madam" was all I got. Honestly, the service at 2 star Michelin Helene Darozze last night was less formal and not at all snooty, that this lot made me laugh. Really surprised (negatively) by the whole experience.
