Cambridge is composed of various institutions including 31 semi-autonomous constituent colleges and more than 150 academic departments, faculty and other institutions organized in six schools. All colleges within the university are self-governing institutions, each with its own membership and governing its own internal structure and activities. All students are members of a college. Cambridge does not have a main campus, and its colleges and central facilities are scattered throughout the city.
