Suz Sims-Fletcher Review of Zehnder's of Frankenmuth

I grew up not far from here and went with friends as a nostalgia trip. It seems that for celebrations and banquets we went here (or the place across the street!) a lot, so I was excited to visit it again.
We went around 4pm and had almost no wait (enough time for a visit to the bathroom). Seated in a booth, we could hear each other talk, although we were near the staff entrance to the back area.
Our server was appropriately attentive (and she was very busy). We each ordered the family style chicken dinner ($22).
There was ample food - chicken, mashed potatoes, filling (I wouldn't call it stuffing), gravy, brocolli, cottage cheese, liver pate (yuck), beer cheese spread, four types of bread, cole slaw...I am sure I am forgetting something ... and the signature orange sherbert with little animal for desert.
We were stuffed. We were able to take the food off our table home (great so that it wasn't wasted). The food wasn't, however... delicious. It wasn't BAD - but....it wasn't DELICIOUS. It was (almost) bland. I am guessing they have cut out spices (salt?).
So glad I went. Don't need to go for another 20 years.
If you've never been - go! You know you want to. Oh, and ask for crayons and coloring pages for the kids.
OH! and they have a squished penny machine!
