Spent two nights in The Midland Hotel at the weeke...

Spent two nights in The Midland Hotel at the weekend, being there for a wedding which was taking place in the hotel. It's the type of hotel I just love... grand, old-fashioned and elegant, and there is great deal to like.

Our room (124) was a good size, smartly decorated, with nice touches like a safe, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, and some complimentary mineral water. The beds were super comfortable.

Staff were all helpful and friendly (special mention for Vilma, who was so happy and cheerful each day at breakfast). The hotel has a grand, impressive lobby and all the common areas were equally plush and smart. There is free, fast Wi-fi throughout the hotel. Breakfast was fine, with a good selection of hot and cold items, and also some more special items available to order for a small additional cost. Location is excellent, just a few minutes from key attractions and the central shopping area.

There were a few things which could have been better: the safe in our room didn't work initially (but was very quickly fixed after I reported it), the room windows don't open much, and the air conditioning was a little bit noisy.

But all in all we really enjoyed our brief stay in The Midland, and I'm happy to give 5 stars for the overall experience. It's not a cheap place to stay, but if I were to visit Manchester again, I'd love to stay in The Midland again.
