I attended Grand Canyon University (GCU) for my master s degree. I was pursuing a degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Government and Public Policy. When admitted, I was admitted under a probationary basis. Understandably so. I did not know what to expect, except that there would be an abundance of reading and writing. And there was. But I had the back up and guidance I needed to succeed. My Student Services Counselor (SSC) was amazing. She called me a few times each week for the first few months. After which, she dialed back to once or twice a week. Eventually she got to once a week. And by the time graduation rolled around, I knew which days to expect her call. She asked about me, my day, my work, my home and anything else that could possibly distract me from my goal of graduating. If a teacher wasn t responding to my messages, she was my first line of defense. If I was confused and needed additional help, my SSC would help me locate who or what was my best option to have my needs met. And I couldn t have done it her being a big part of my village. The school was everything I hoped it would be and I am so happy for it. A Christian community where I didn t have to feel awkward about my faith. If I am being 100% honest, I felt somewhat ostracized for not being a Republican, Conservative or GOP believer. I read and saw some very hurtful things by individuals in our class. I am about 80% sure the majority of my classmates were disgusted with my discussions. I pride myself on looking at the whole situation and not just my point of view. I could tell I rubbed some the wrong way because toward the end of my classes, none of my classmates would comment on my discussion pieces. That is ok. I did my work. And I responded to theirs. If GCU had a doctoral degree I wanted (Legal Studies), I would be starting that degree ASAP. I attended graduation. The campus was absolutely amazing. I felt like I was walking on to the set of Beverly Hills 90210 when they first went to college back in the 1990 s. That gives away my age. But also, it tells of how beautiful the campus is. And it is only getting better. The only thing I wish GCU had, was more scholarships for my degree. There were none. That really sucked! Independent of that I recommend Grand Canyon University to any and everyone.
