The National Central Library of Rome is, together ...

The National Central Library of Rome is, together with the National Central Library of Florence, one of the two Italian national libraries that have the main task of collecting and storing all Italian publications. The library archive houses seven million volumes and 25,000 sixteenth-century books, to which are added incunabula, manuscripts, maps, 50,000 periodicals. The Library was established in Rome in 1876 and the building of the Roman College was chosen as the seat.
In 1975 the library was moved to the new building, built by a group of architects adhering to the Modern Movement, in the Castra Praetoria area, near the University of Sapienza; divided into four sectors, including eleven reading rooms, among other things, it collects numerous rare, valuable or particularly significant works.
The service, open to the public for all those who have reached the age of eighteen, is free and allows consultation and, for some of the material, loan and photo reproduction.
