Iowa Select Farms is the biggest pork producer in Iowa and has recently submitted applications for 19 new hog confinements in 9 counties in northcentral Iowa. This will add another 90,000 hogs and 36.7 million gallons of manure per year to the state and add to the pollution of the 754 currently impaired waterways in the state. The dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico is bigger than it has ever been, due to anti-environmental agricultural practices. A large percentage of hogs grown in the US are for Chinese markets and many of them are even owned by Chinese companies. It's time for a moratorium, not expansion.
