Montana Homes is a terrible choice for a homebuild...

Montana Homes is a terrible choice for a homebuilder if you want a well built home. They do not care about producing quality homes, their business model is to build homes as cheaply as possible and cut corners in every aspect including hiring incompetent workers. The following are examples of issues we experienced in the first year of owning our home (to name only a few): mold growing on walls due to humidity issues and inadequate/improper venting and humidity control (they told us mold is normal), ceiling leaking (they said this is normal), window shattering due to improper installation, inadequate insulation and improper HVAC design as well as inadequate furnace (2 rooms in house are 10 degrees colder than rest of house during winter and those rooms can not reach room temperature in winter even if heat is turned all the way up), concrete driveway chipping throughout and alligator cracks throughout (if I had to guess I would assume it was poured under cold conditions), truss uplift (ceiling separating from walls leaving a 6 inch gap), attic hatch improperly installed and not sealed causing leakage and moisture, finish carpentry issues including major defects to railings and baseboards, closet shelves collapsing and popping out of walls (12 foot shelf was installed without a single stud and improper bracing), and large portions of the house were never painted (raw drywall patches and/or raw wood and drywall left throughout). We were later told that the carpenter who worked on the house was not a carpenter by trade (and it shows!). They were very pleasant to deal with up until we made the purchase and moved in! They committed to addressing issues during our walk through, but never addressed the issues. They pushed things off until the first year was up and then told us to call the warranty company. When we brought major issues forward to the warranty department, we were repeatedly told that is common and that is normal and we are not concerned with that issue and talk to the warranty company . It is NOT okay for mold to form on walls, it is NOT okay for drywall on the ceiling to be wet, it is NOT okay for a homebuilder to leave a house unfinished and walk away. Do not purchase a home from Montana Homes if you care about quality, customer service, or your families safety.
