Wounded Warrior Project: Empowering Veterans and Active Duty Service Members

Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is a nonprofit organization that has been serving veterans and active duty service members since 2003. The organization was founded by a group of veterans who wanted to provide support to their fellow warriors who were returning from combat with physical and mental injuries.

The mission of WWP is to honor and empower wounded warriors by providing them with programs, services, and resources that help them transition back into civilian life. The organization's vision is to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation's history.

WWP offers a wide range of programs and services that are designed to meet the unique needs of each warrior. These programs include mental health support, physical rehabilitation, career counseling, financial assistance, adaptive sports activities, peer mentoring, family support services, and more.

One of the most important aspects of WWP's work is its focus on mental health support for veterans. Many warriors return from combat with invisible wounds such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression or anxiety disorders. These conditions can be just as debilitating as physical injuries but are often overlooked or stigmatized.

To address this issue head-on WWP provides free mental health care for all registered alumni through its Warrior Care Network program which partners with four top academic medical centers across the country: Emory Healthcare Veterans Program in Atlanta; Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program in Boston; Road Home Program at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago; Operation Mend at UCLA Health in Los Angeles.

In addition to these clinical partnerships WWP also offers telephonic counseling sessions through Talkspace which allows warriors access to licensed therapists via text message or video chat from anywhere they have an internet connection.

Another key program offered by WWP is its Physical Health & Wellness program which provides access to fitness equipment grants for home gyms or gym memberships along with nutrition coaching so that warriors can maintain healthy lifestyles after leaving military service.

WWP also recognizes the importance of community engagement for healing after military service so it hosts events throughout the year where alumni can connect with other veterans who share similar experiences while participating in fun activities like fishing trips or sporting events like basketball games hosted by NBA teams around the country.
