About United nations global compact

The United Nations Global Compact is a voluntary initiative based on CEO commitments to implement universal sustainability principles and to undertake partnerships in support of UN goals.

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is a voluntary initiative that was launched in 2000. It is based on CEO commitments to implement universal sustainability principles and to undertake partnerships in support of UN goals. The UNGC aims to promote responsible corporate citizenship and sustainable business practices worldwide.

The UNGC has ten principles that are based on four key areas: human rights, labor standards, environmental protection, and anti-corruption. These principles provide a framework for companies to align their strategies and operations with universal values on human rights, labor standards, the environment, and anti-corruption.

The first principle of the UNGC is to support and respect human rights within their sphere of influence. This means that companies should not be complicit in any form of human rights abuses or discrimination. They should also ensure that they do not violate the right to privacy or freedom of expression.

The second principle focuses on labor standards. Companies are expected to uphold freedom of association and collective bargaining rights for their employees. They should also eliminate all forms of forced or compulsory labor as well as child labor from their supply chains.

Environmental protection is another key area covered by the UNGC's principles. Companies are expected to take proactive measures towards environmental responsibility by promoting sustainable practices such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving natural resources like water and energy, minimizing waste generation through recycling programs among others.

Finally, the fourth principle addresses anti-corruption measures which require companies to work against corruption in all its forms including bribery both locally & internationally while promoting transparency & accountability across all levels within an organization.

By committing themselves voluntarily under these ten principles set forth by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), businesses can demonstrate their commitment towards sustainability while contributing positively towards achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In addition to these ten principles set forth by UNGC; there are several other initiatives taken up by this organization aimed at promoting responsible business practices globally:

1) The Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign - This campaign encourages businesses worldwide to commit themselves towards limiting global warming below 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels through science-based targets aligned with Paris Agreement goals.

2) Women's Empowerment Principles - These seven guiding principles aim at empowering women in workplaces around the world.

3) Caring for Climate Initiative - This initiative brings together businesses committed towards taking action against climate change through carbon reduction targets & other related activities.

4) Supply Chain Sustainability - Through this initiative; companies can work together with suppliers & partners across value chains aiming at improving social & environmental performance throughout supply chain operations.

5) Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI)- PRI provides a framework for investors who wish invest responsibly while considering ESG factors into investment decisions

In conclusion; The United Nations Global Compact provides an excellent platform where businesses can come together voluntarily under one umbrella aimed at promoting responsible corporate citizenship globally while contributing positively towards achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By committing themselves under these ten universally accepted sustainability principles along with various other initiatives taken up by this organization; businesses can demonstrate their commitment toward creating a better world tomorrow than today!
