Tuthilltown Spirits is a craft distillery located in Gardiner, New York. Founded in 2003 by Ralph Erenzo and Brian Lee, Tuthilltown Spirits is known for producing high-quality whiskey, bourbon, and rye using locally sourced ingredients. The History of Tuthilltown Spirits
Tuthilltown Spirits was born out of a passion for whiskey-making. In the early 2000s, Ralph Erenzo and Brian Lee were looking to start a business that would allow them to pursue their love of distilling. They stumbled upon an old gristmill in Gardiner that had been abandoned since the 1940s and decided to turn it into a distillery.
The mill was built in 1788 by Joel Tuthill, one of the first settlers in the area. It had been used as a gristmill for over 200 years before Erenzo and Lee acquired it. They spent two years renovating the mill before opening Tuthilltown Spirits in 2003.
At first, they produced vodka using local apples as their base ingredient. However, they soon realized that there was more demand for whiskey than vodka. They started experimenting with different grains and aging techniques until they found what worked best for them.
In 2006, Tuthilltown released its first batch of Hudson Whiskey – New York's first whiskey since Prohibition. The release was met with critical acclaim from both consumers and industry experts alike.
Today, Tuthilltown produces several varieties of Hudson Whiskey including Baby Bourbon (aged less than four years), Manhattan Rye (aged at least three years), Four Grain Bourbon (aged at least four years), Single Malt Whiskey (aged at least three years), Maple Cask Rye (aged at least two years) among others.
Sustainability Practices
One thing that sets Tuthilltown apart from other distilleries is its commitment to sustainability practices. The company uses locally sourced ingredients whenever possible – including grains grown on-site or nearby farms – reducing transportation emissions while supporting local agriculture.
Additionally, all waste products are recycled or repurposed on-site; spent grain goes to feed local livestock while wastewater is treated naturally through an on-site constructed wetland system before being returned back into nature clean enough to drink!

Visitors can tour the facility year-round where they can learn about how spirits are made from start-to-finish while enjoying samples along the way! Tours include tastings of various Hudson Whiskeys as well as other spirits produced by Tuthiltown such as gin or vodka depending on availability!
