Trygfonden: Investing in Safety and Security for All in Denmark

Tryghed, or safety and security, is the core of a good life. This is what Trygfonden believes in and invests its time, resources, and commitment to strengthen the sense of security for everyone in Denmark.

Established in 1980 by Tryg Insurance Company, Trygfonden is an independent foundation that aims to improve safety and prevent accidents through research, education, innovation, and advocacy. It operates with a vision of creating a safer society where people can live without fear of harm or danger.

Over the years, Trygfonden has become one of the largest philanthropic organizations in Denmark with an annual budget of around DKK 700 million (approximately USD 110 million). It supports various initiatives related to health promotion, emergency response, social inclusion, traffic safety, drowning prevention, fire prevention, crime prevention among others.

One of its flagship programs is Heartstarter which aims to increase survival rates from cardiac arrest by providing public access defibrillators (PADs) across Denmark. Since its launch in 2007 until now more than 13.000 PADs have been installed throughout the country thanks to Heartstarter's efforts.

Another notable initiative is "Børn i trafik" (Children in Traffic) which focuses on educating children about road safety through interactive games and activities. The program has reached over half a million children since it started back in 1998.

Trygfonden also funds research projects that aim to improve our understanding of risk factors related to accidents such as falls among elderly people or injuries caused by fireworks during New Year's Eve celebrations. By supporting evidence-based interventions based on scientific findings they hope to reduce the number of accidents happening every year.

In addition to these programs Trygfonden also provides funding for various organizations working towards improving public health such as Danish Cancer Society or Danish Red Cross among others.
