The Trace: Shining a Light on America's Gun Violence Crisis
The Trace is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit newsroom that is dedicated to shining a light on America's gun violence crisis. The organization was founded in 2015 by Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City and a prominent advocate for gun control.
The Trace's mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of gun violence in America, from the causes and consequences of mass shootings to the everyday toll of urban gun violence. The organization aims to inform and engage the public, policymakers, and journalists about this critical issue.
One of The Trace's key strengths is its team of experienced journalists who are dedicated to covering all aspects of gun violence. They include reporters who have covered mass shootings such as Sandy Hook and Parkland; experts in data analysis who can uncover trends and patterns in gun violence; and investigative journalists who can dig deep into the root causes of this crisis.
In addition to its reporting work, The Trace also provides resources for those affected by gun violence. This includes a database that tracks every incident involving gunfire in America; guides for survivors on how to navigate the aftermath of a shooting; and information on how individuals can get involved in advocacy efforts.
One area where The Trace has made significant contributions is in exposing the role that guns play in domestic abuse. Through its reporting work, The Trace has highlighted how abusers use guns as tools of intimidation and control over their partners. It has also shown how weak laws around domestic abusers' access to firearms put women at risk.
Another area where The Trace has had an impact is through its coverage of urban gun violence. While mass shootings often dominate headlines, it is everyday shootings that claim most lives due to factors such as poverty, racism or gang activity. By focusing on these issues with sensitivity but without sensationalism or stereotypes about communities affected by this type crime - which disproportionately affects people living below poverty line - they have helped raise awareness about this issue among policymakers at all levels.
Overall, if you're looking for reliable information about America's ongoing struggle with gun violence β whether you're a journalist looking for sources or someone simply trying understand whatβs happening β then look no further than The Trace!
