The putney school is a great school but it can be really difficult if you are a student of color. If you are a student of color who does not speak on or care about social issues it tends to be ok but if you do care about social justice and are also a student of color it will be hard. The teachers will antagonize you and no matter how hard you try your voice will not be heard. Not only that but they will make a concentrated effort to keep you from doing things because it will look bad on the school when you highlight the problems in an effort to change them. Another issue is that there are next to noteachers of color so it can be very hard to find support among the faculty. Some of the faculty can be even borderline emotionally abusive. Don't get me wrong, they have well taught classes and a lot of amazing faculty, but the few who are not amazing can put a lot of strain on your relationship with the school. It also puts a strain on your mental health which is not properly handled. At that school I considered suicide a number of times and I am still re cooperating. There is good and bad everywhere and this is not to say that you should not go to the putney school it's just to say that there is another side of it that is not talked about and should be taken into consideration.

I went to The Putney School for four years and they taught me many great things about life. I loved every second of it and remember it fondly all the time. The teachers, administration, and students all eat together during meal times and there is formal dinner multiple nights of the week. During these nights, students serve the entire meal from start to finish. There is a genuine sense of community at this school and I highly recommend their education.
