The Pap Corps: Champions for Cancer Research

The Pap Corps is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to raising funds for cancer research since 1952. With over 22,000 members, it is the largest grassroots fundraising organization in South Florida. The mission of The Pap Corps is to support the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in their efforts to find a cure for cancer.

The history of The Pap Corps dates back to 1952 when a group of women from Miami Beach decided to raise money for cancer research by selling pap smears door-to-door. They called themselves "The Pap Smear Crusaders" and raised $4,000 in their first year. Over time, the group grew and evolved into what we know today as The Pap Corps.

Today, The Pap Corps has over 50 chapters throughout South Florida and has raised over $110 million dollars for cancer research. Their fundraising efforts include events such as golf tournaments, fashion shows, and galas. They also have an annual walkathon called "Pap Corps Walkathon" which attracts thousands of participants each year.

One unique aspect of The Pap Corps is that all funds raised go directly towards cancer research at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This means that every dollar donated goes towards finding a cure for cancer rather than administrative costs or overhead expenses.

In addition to fundraising efforts, members of The Pap Corps also volunteer their time at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center by providing comfort items such as blankets and pillows to patients undergoing treatment.

The impact that The Pap Corps has had on cancer research cannot be overstated. Their contributions have helped fund groundbreaking research projects such as immunotherapy treatments which have shown promising results in treating various types of cancers.
