The Muny

Love this outdoor theatre! Every night they open up the last 10 rows or so as the free seats, first come, first served. So much fun! Theatre under the stars! You're even allowed to bring your own food and drinks (no glass bottles).

Accepting what it is--a St. Louis Treasure. The shows are very professional and usually well adapted to the enormous stage and venue.

Good production but some scenes were too long and some great songs were missing.

To be honest, the Muny is one of the reasons I moved to STL! I've been to at least 22 shows and I am always amazed at the level of talent of the actors and actresses on stage. Many have even acted in Broadway!
As America's largest outdoor theatre, it also provides 1000 free seats (first come first serve). The line begins to form around 6:00 and then opens at 7:00. Show starts at 8:15. It has easy wheel chair access, and paid seating starts at 15 dollars, and is worth it. Go see a play!!

The Muny is a massive outdoor theater that's been hosting shows since 1918. The shows are consistently high quality and there's a free standing room balcony at the top of the theater. It fills up early. (A fun fact about Missourians is that we'll do anything for free stuff. Which includes showing up 3 hours early for bad seats. Is that excessive? You're excessive, you filthy out-of-towner, now stay out of our free seats!!)

Very spacious. Very big. Seats are well spaced apart. The isles are very amply wide. The food is very decent and the tickets are nicely priced. They even have free seats. I love this place. All the shows are very good. The outdoor area is big and amazingly decorated.

St. Louis staple for good outdoor theater. Always good shows and musical numbers. Can be hot in the summer. Seats can be tight and some are not staggered correctly, leaving you to lean to see around the 7' giant in front of you. Currently am a season ticket holder(gift). Free seats are great if you show up early enough to get some. Recommend seat cushions and binoculars.

We saw The Little Mermaid, and the whole experience was amazing. We were able to bring in our own snacks and drinks which is a nice perk. The show was fantastic. We loved the performance and costumes. I highly recommend seeing a show here.

The nicest staff - hands down. Excellent outdoor venue that makes you feel like a part of STL history. I don't know how those giant fans work but they DO. Always a lovely breeze to keep the bugs and ugly sweats away!

The Muny is the gem of St Louis! It has to be experienced to be appreciated.

Best part of the evening was the fireworks. Very faithful patrons and I'm one of them as a season ticket holder but was a little disapointed in the overall show. The talent was great just was expecting more music and less talking. Looking forward to the one hundredth season. Why orange for the new facade its a pretty bold color.,

The muny is always a great place to spend a summer evening surrounded by family and friends! Always bring binoculars and a paper fan for those hot summer nights.

The Muny is a St Louis institution! My family try to catch as many summer theatre productions as possible each year. The free seats are amazing! Where else can you catch first class theatre productions for cheap or even free!

Great stage with professional performances in the middle of beautiful Forest Park. The back nine rows are free on a first-come first-served walk-in basis.

With the reconfiguration of the parking lot there is virtually no disabled parking and no numbers or letters to tell you where you parked ..I may end up not being able to keep coming since the walk is too long. It might look pretty but it's not easy to get around. The shows are fine but it is such a problem to get in there to park. I am a season ticket holder

You can see some great shows here...but...the heat and humidity in the St. Louis summers can make it an unpleasant experience.

St. Louis has a thriving art scene, and the Muny is it's cornerstone. High-caliber productions with local and national talent available in one of the most beautiful outdoor theatres in the world.

Will it be hot? Possibly, but the humongous fans do a great job, and you're allowed to bring a small, soft-side cooler in filled with drinks (non-alcoholic, plastic bottles).

Is it pricey? Depends. Ticket costs vary, but in their mission to support the arts, free seats are available at every show.

Great place. Even though they were closed. Great historical arts place. Peaceful and picturesque. Highly recommended!

The MUNY is a magical place. They do Broadway shows of Broadway quality. The talent they put on stage is fabulous, often the actor who originated the role on Broadway. The stage and the theater is huge. To be considered a "Broadway" theater, they have to have at least 300 seats. The MUNY has almost 11,000. And they fill this theater several times a season. There are almost 1,500 seats that are free, first come, first served. So if you are willing to stand in line for 30-60 minutes, you can see Broadway theater for free. Each show lasts a week, and you get 7 shows per summer. Group tickets need at least 15 people and you get a good discount, a backstage tour, and a reserved table for your picnic dinner. Because the stage is so huge, every show has to be adapted with additional cast and bigger scenery because otherwise it would look tiny in the space. You can almost always buy tickets the night of the show so you don't have to plan ahead.

100 years of fab entertainment and plenty of free seats so ALL people can enjoy the shows!

The Muny has been a favorite of mine since I was a child. There's nowhere else like it. 100 years of unequaled musical theater!

I have been going to the Muny for 24 plus years since I was a kid. It is a St. Louis tradition and an amazing local theatre. Anyone visiting St. Louis in the summer, the Muny is a must see! Go see a show one evening under the stars and there are free seats!

I love The Muny! Tonight I took a friend who had never been before. I ordered an open faced veggie sandwich without cheese (because I'm allergic to dairy) and the lady who cooked it checked with me about my allergies, took extra time with my food to make sure there were no contaminants, then brought it out to me herself! Great service, caring staff, and excellent food. Treat yourself to dinner and a show!

Great place to take your kids to. I highly recommend the Muny to anyone who wants to have a fabulous night of entertainment.

The setting its amazing and it is so wonderful to be sitting outdoors and enjoying the show. Even with very warm weather, we were very comfortable. They have terrific fans that are silent and running throughout the show. The mild breeze was delightful. St Louis is fortunate to have this marvelous venue.

Awesome performance. Helpful staff. Easily accessible restrooms.

What a fun outdoor theater! Watched a musical with a talented cast and the big turbine fans kept me cool despite the hot summer weather. A great place for a date, though the plays themselves might not be the most child appropriate. All in all a wonderful experience.

What a great place for TONS of people to experience theatre together in the open summer air! If you want to park close to the theatre, you want to get there pretty early - I mean more than an hour before the show. In your time before the show eat the picnic that you've packed or the Chipotle you brought along! If you bought tickets, bring a blanket and find a place to sit. If you are in the free seats at the back, you can bring the food to your seats when they let you in at 7p.

My only complaint about this place are the seats - they're like baseball stadium seats. They're extremely uncomfortable!!! I would strongly suggest bring a cushion, towel or blanket to sit on!

Great shows, great atmosphere, free seats available...what's not to love?

I've been going here for 25+ years. Some shows are better than others, so my general recommendation is go to the big name shows since the cast seems to be higher quality.

Not a bad seat in the house. They even have some free ones. A must place to go at least once if you live in town.

My three-year-old granddaughter loved "Annie" so much she yelled, "Do it again!" and then started crying when she found out the show was over. We assured her that she could come back to the Muny again in the future, and that calmed her down. She left the Muny singing the score!
Congratulations on one hundred years, Muny officers, staff, and casts. We were glad it wasn't always "tomorrow" - that we got to see "Annie" today. Please realize you have. earned much admiration nation-wide. We wish for your success in this and coming years.

Such a high production quality for a more than reasonable cost. A place locals and visitors can both love. I hope the Muny stays around for 100 years after this!
