The Education Trust-Midwest: Improving Education for All Michigan Students

The Education Trust-Midwest is a nonpartisan research and advocacy organization that is dedicated to improving education for all Michigan students, especially those who are most vulnerable. The organization was founded in 2010 with the goal of ensuring that every student in Michigan has access to a high-quality education that prepares them for success in college, career, and life.

The Education Trust-Midwest works tirelessly to identify the policies and practices that are most effective at improving student outcomes. They conduct rigorous research on issues such as teacher quality, school funding, and educational equity. They also work closely with policymakers, educators, parents, and community leaders to advocate for policies that will help all students succeed.

One of the key areas of focus for The Education Trust-Midwest is closing the achievement gap between different groups of students. In Michigan, there are significant disparities in academic achievement between low-income students and their more affluent peers. There are also gaps between white students and students of color. The Education Trust-Midwest believes that these gaps can be closed through targeted interventions such as early childhood education programs, high-quality teaching and leadership development programs, increased funding for schools serving low-income communities.

Another area where The Education Trust-Midwest is making a difference is in promoting college readiness among Michigan's high school graduates. Many young people in Michigan do not have access to rigorous coursework or other resources needed to prepare them for college-level work. This can lead to lower rates of college enrollment and completion among disadvantaged populations. To address this issue, The Education Trust-Midwest advocates for policies such as expanded dual enrollment opportunities (where high school students can take college-level courses), increased support services like tutoring or mentoring programs.

In addition to its research and advocacy work on behalf of K-12 education reform efforts across the state of Michigan , The Education Trust Midwest also provides valuable resources and support to educators and school leaders. They offer professional development opportunities, technical assistance, and other resources to help schools improve their practices and better serve their students.

Overall, The Education Trust-Midwest is a vital organization that is making a real difference in the lives of Michigan's students. Through its research, advocacy, and support efforts, it is helping to create a more equitable education system that prepares all students for success in college, career, and life.
