SUNY-Binghamton

Its huge and beautiful. I went to get my daughter for the 1st time since she started college. Its like a little city of its own, different dorm buildings, all with their unique designs and if you are not familiar with the premises you can get lost( of course not if you have google maps)...jejeje

This one point is for their parking department.
You cannot believe that they give their students 100$ ticket for parking in this suburban area. I got ticket in NYC only for 85$!!
PLUS, they even give parking ticket at mid night. This is crazy!! Just walk to the school.

SUNY schools are great and I believe Binghamton is the best. Great campus. Smart students.

This school has problems. It's crooked in many ways, as far as I'm concerned. They like to advertise themselves as low cost, but sneak payments into other things to make up for it.

The meal plans operate by weight; your food is weighed at the register, and that dictates how much you pay for it. The default meal plan starts you around $900 per semester, which seems like a good amount, but if you have an above average appetite (or want to eat anything other than salad) you'll be running out of meal plan money as early as a month before the semester is over. And so, you pay to add more to it.

The gym. For most schools, you don't have to pay for access to the school's exercise facilities. Not the case here. You have to pay around $100 per semester to use the gym.

The area around the school isn't the best. With plenty of sketchy locations, your best bet is staying on campus.

Recreation. One of the main criticisms i heard before going to Binghamton was how boring it was. And wow, should I have listened. There is very little to do on campus. There's a couple bowling lanes, ping pong tables, and billiards tables in the University Union's basement, but you have to pay to play each time, from the same pool of money as your meal plan. But paying aside, the same three activities can become boring quite quickly. This is why (in my opinion) Binghamton is often referred to as a party school, as well as a school where drug use is a bit more common. There's nothing else to do majority of the time.

And finally, the Conduct System is very bad. And by bad, I mean horrible. They go on an "innocent until likely guilty" base. However, they are not above REMOVING A STUDENT FROM CAMPUS HOUSING before their case has even begun, and giving the student the numbers to homeless shelters in the nearby area. They pursue maximum punishments, and if the student does not point out why the punishment is excessive, they stay at the maximum. They share personal information with other students in their investigations. And to top it all off, race plays a large factor. I've seen two students do the same thing, and in the end, the student of color was set to receive a four semester suspension while the other student received two. It was only after the student of color spoke up that the conduct board lowered his.

This school is not good. You're far better off going to another SUNY.

What is the difference between CUNY and SUNY? NYorkers from Yonkers and Jericho, NY. Reminisent my days in Elis Island asylum pending; conjugal dates okay at Old Vestal Parkway LoMein restaurant while in old dominion jailhouse for Vietnam atrocities (apparently)!

College at Binghamton University was one of the best experiences of my life. The professors are fantastic and renown. The mountain side location is beautiful. The students and staff are friendly and inspiring. Some of the facilities (I'm thinking LH bathrooms even post-remodel) need some work. However, they have been making a lot of good facility upgrades over the last couple years - especially regarding the science labs - that are quite impressive. I would certainly pay for my kid to go there when she's grown, it's a fantastic place to learn!

I would have given 5 stars but I took off one because the food is so bad. Alternatives to the dining hall are unreasonably expensive and don't taste much better.

Campus is beautiful most of the time. There's currently construction going on, which is kind of inconvenient, but it should only be around for a few more months.

Nice place to walk michelle's dog, Abel. The pavement was a little hot for his little paws though. 4 stars.

Zero assistance in internship and job placement, I regret choosing Binghamton

Very very hard school, no joke. For the past few years i had no life being a student at this school. DSON is another thing. If you are planning on transferring to this program i will recommend you to preprare yourself mentally and physically. Some of the prof can be nice other ..... Understand. But at the end of the day when you survive you can say Thank You Jesus for the support. Prayer is something that i recommend along with hard work bcz only the Lord can help you through DSON.

Amazing University with excellent staff and facilities.

Great university, but they have trouble accepting the best students for their school. Apparently, being a good person and student with great grades isn't enough for them...

the most insulting and unprofessional interview experience I have ever had. they called me 3 days before a skype interview when I was packing and moving from Michigan to California, I told them if we could do it in 5 days, they still insisted to do it in 3days. then, a week later they called me again to meet on campus in 4 days and they didn't want to pay for the flight from SD to Binghampton, so I paid for the flight + car rental for around $700( they paid for the hotel though). then, the interview itself went well and friendly. at the end, they said the result would be out within a week, and mentioned that they would reimburse some of the travel fee ( $54 if I remembered correctly). I went back to SD and started my endless waiting. a week later, I heard nothing from them, so I emailed their recruiter(who contacted before) for inquiring the result, she didn't response. A couple of days later, I called her, she didn't pickup, so I left a message on the answering machine, NO ONE ever called me back. So I emailed some of the hiring committee members, NO ONE responded to my email. So I thought maybe they were still deciding because the job posting was still on their website. However, about 5 weeks after the on-campus interview, they took down the job post. Even when it happened, I still didn't receive any notification of the position being filled. It is a common courtesy for the organizations to inform the interviewees the status of the job application. But they didn't do their job, they refused to communicate (if I was bad, lemme know, ok?). I have never seen any organization behaving like this. BTW, the hiring department was Undergraduate Admission, and the position was International Student Counselor.

Overall you will get an excellent education among other students who have done well in their secondary schools, or have brought up their grades in Community Colleges and transferred. You will be prepared to enter a graduate school upon your 4 years at Binghamton to get some sort of professional skill. Binghamton does not prepare you to enter the job market. Also you will find yourselves competing against other students, who have been "recruited" from prestigious universities. Binghamton is the highest ranked of the state schools but it is still a state school and you might want to consider whether if you are accepted to Cornell and Binghamton it is worth the Loans to go to Cornell.

The major negative I encountered was that I received next to no academic guidance from any faculty member in how I could either pursue a career or further my education with an advanced degree. I entered and completed my degree in the History Dept. which boasted brilliant scholars who despite their expertise and charisma in lecture halls, had no interest in guiding a student or mentoring anyone. When I inquired about having an "academic advisor", I was told choose any faculty/professor you like - gee thanks. I made the worst decision by choosing a professor, who made zero effort to speak with or advise me. She was only interested in pursuing her own research, and cared nothing about the students within her department. As someone who came to University interested in pursuing history as a major and writing as a minor, I was never told, that in order to pursue history on a master or Ph.D. level one needed to become fluent in at least 2 foreign languages. I am sure that I like many other Liberal Arts majors at Binghamton left me unprepared to do anything but apply to graduate school - and even then I did not have the proper foundation on which to pursue further studies.

As this happened 35+ years ago, I can only hope the Liberal Arts school has changed and adapted to the real world needs of its students. Knowing what I know now, I would never have spent 3 years at Binghamton, but sought out a college or university where the student receives guidance, mentoring, internships and a practicable knowledge so one may graduate with the tools needed to build a career.

Graduated here with a Bachelors in 1981. Let me say this: After having studied here, my full-time Masters from NYU - even with Full-Time work wasn't at all difficult. Have gone to many Alumni events, very recently 2 of them, at The Princeton Club. Everything you've read or heard, with a multitude of accolades from the media, are each true.

Conclusively, anyone studying and graduating here will surely, unquestionably learn their true high-caliber level ability at a younger age.

27th IBCT is keeping things moving for Covid testing. The young lady that did my test was extremely polite and courteous. Took less than 20 minutes to go through the whole thing. Turn your radio to 1620 and you will hear directions from a man that will put you to sleep and is not very calming to listen to.

Great Campus, well kept, and maintained grounds. The campus is enclosed and has only college buildings on it's grounds. Much of the campus has been updated, nice athletics faculties and academic buildings. The student union has a lot going on.
Academically it is challenging and well regarded.
A great value for the tuition. For both New York residents and out of state students.

Beautiful university, I love it. Specially because my grandson is there.

Amazing school! I do not regret coming here. Campus is beautiful and hilly so you'll get some exercise while going to classes. I'm from NYC so coming here gave me the experience of going away to college, while still finding my own niche within BU's large family. Students are also great because they work as a team and get along pretty well. Met a lot of smart people and made many great connections! :)

This school will break your spirit. Some professors are awesome but all the classes are ridiculously hard. If you come in as a transfer student, your GPA will suffer.

Binghamton, as a school and as a city, flies under the radar but I loved my time there and no one can take that away from me.

Best years ever, awful dining hall food (but not the worst), great classes (even if some of them were too large), and decent parties. #DOBINGHAMTON.

What are you doing reading Google Reviews for a university? If you're seriously considering going here, go read some actual material, like Princeton Review, or something! Anyway, here's the lowdown: lots of smart people here. Bluntly put, you'll be with a bunch of Ivy-league rejects and people who can't afford the Ivies and top liberal art schools - but also with people who love Binghamton to death and came here because it's their absolute first choice. I think a lot of people come in with a little bit of a superiority complex, but quickly realize just how wicked smart their classmates are. The professors are really great, the campus is awesome and constantly getting better, and there's a really great Nature Preserve with many, many hiking trails. The best thing is this - because you'll be in the middle of nowhere, the professors and staff really care about the students. For better or worse, it's all they have! There is certainly a greek life presence and there's always a party somewhere, but students mostly really, really care about their work and go on to good grad schools, med schools, and law schools. The bottom line is this - there is a certain magic to Binghamton that makes it so that people really, really love it here. It took me a while to find it myself, but it certainly took hold.

I go here to Binghamton University and it's everything I asked for and more, I love it here.

Some of us have a higher education, and more common sense, than this super high school could ever muster.

Great school! My daughter is having a great experience here outside of academic as well. Besides excelling academically, she loves everything else as well such as Inter Varsity, church, and other student group activities. She is a student athlete (volleyball) and enjoys community support of many athletic events here. In addition, they also enjoy the support of their fellow students and teams.

Academically, Binghamton is widely recognized in the US (we live in Tennessee) for academic excellence.

The city is a typical college town. My daughter feels very safe. Everything is convenient. People are friendly.

I strongly recommend it.

Binghamton University is a top-rated public research center, located in upstate New York; with 140+ undergrad/grad programs offered. Great university with excellent academics!!

Their library hours were awful. The economics professors were aweful. But I still thing it was the best bang for the buck so I would encourage future generations to go there. Great Jewish life there too thanks mostly to Chabad but also to Hillel.

I only had the chance to go here for one semester. That one semester was great. The people here in general are pretty nice. I didn't have that hard of s time finding friends here. I'm from the east Bay Area in California . I was on the debate team here until I got sick and had to move back home.
