Squash Haven: Empowering Urban Youth through Sports and Education

Squash Haven is a non-profit organization that provides urban youth with access to sports and education. Founded in 2007, Squash Haven has been committed to serving public school students in New Haven, Connecticut. The organization's unique program combines squash training with academic enrichment, providing students with the tools they need to succeed both on and off the court.

At Squash Haven, we believe that every child deserves access to quality education and extracurricular activities. Unfortunately, many children from low-income families do not have these opportunities. That's why we created our program - to give urban youth a chance to learn new skills, build confidence, and achieve their full potential.

Our program is based at the Yale gymnasium in New Haven. We work closely with public schools throughout the city to identify students who would benefit from our program. Once accepted into Squash Haven, students receive intensive squash training twice a week during the school year. They also participate in academic enrichment activities such as tutoring sessions and college visits.

One of the unique aspects of our program is that it focuses on both athletic and academic development. We believe that these two areas are interconnected - when children feel confident on the court or field, they are more likely to succeed academically as well. Our coaches work closely with each student to help them set goals for themselves both athletically and academically.

In addition to squash training and academic enrichment activities, Squash Haven also provides its students with mentorship opportunities. Each student is paired up with an adult mentor who serves as a positive role model for them throughout their time in our program.

We are proud of what we have accomplished at Squash Haven over the past decade. Our graduates have gone on to attend some of the top colleges in the country including Harvard University, Brown University, Yale University, Wesleyan University among others. We believe that our program has the power to change lives and we are committed to continuing our work in the years to come.
