Springfield Center for Independent Living (SCIL) is a non-profit, non-residential service and advocacy organization that provides free services to people with disabilities and seniors. The center is based on the independent living philosophy, which believes that people with disabilities should have the same rights, choices, and opportunities as everyone else.

SCIL was founded in 1985 by a group of individuals with disabilities who wanted to create an organization that would help them live independently in their communities. Today, SCIL serves over 1,500 individuals annually in Greene, Christian, Webster, Polk and Dallas counties.

The mission of SCIL is to empower people with disabilities and seniors by providing them with the tools they need to live independently. The center offers a wide range of services including information and referral services; peer support; independent living skills training; advocacy; assistive technology demonstrations; housing assistance; transportation assistance; employment assistance; youth transition services.
