Was there for lunch yesterday Terrible food, rice had weevils!!..terrible ambiance compared to what you showed in the pictures and it took an hour for us to eat after we ordered......y'all are terrible
The workshop is amazing, it's worth attending. Thanks to trouw nutrition
Avoid the Speke Restaurant: prices on the menu are exclusive taxes and thus a way to try to cheat their customers. Deeply annoying.
There are bed bugs!!!
The hotel looks like, but besides that the management is terrible and rude.
Here are a few things that happened while I was staying there:
1. It is not actually "fully serviced" as they do not include dish washing without a surcharge of $150/month (for the record, you could higher a full time maid for less than that). Even after I paid the $150, the maid never washed my dishes.
2. The A/C was broken when I moved in, it was blowing air, but not getting cold. The manager came to check and told me "It's not broken, it just wont get cold."
3. My neighbor had cash stolen out of her safe.
4. My friend who was staying there had to move apartments, she told the manger she would move after she got home from work. The management moved all of her stuff during the day without asking.
5. On several occasions I saw one of the managers yelling at guests.
Actually a nice old hotel with charm. Breakfast and food in the Indian restaurant were very good. But the waitresses in the restaurant often disappear for a long time and often forget parts of the order. The room we were in was very noisy. The shower had little water pressure and the security at the rock bar was very rude and almost annoying.
It was really very nice to happen from with a family
It was okay. Nice, old feel. Some things you expect to find in the room were not there though. Had to ask for slippers. Ordering in from the Indian restaurant downstairs was a good call. Great food!
I found the rooms not soundproof at all. But I was tired so that didn't matter too much. The people are very nice too.
Best hotel for Indians. New management is very good they will respond quickly. Manager Ramesh for apartment hotel is very good and so helpful he take care of his customers so nicely. Breakfast don't have much options but you feel okay. Try rock bar, try kibar pass Indian food (best), try night life in weekend
One really feels cheated after a visit to Speke hotel !!! Their prices are already very high, then they add 5% in tip 18% in tax / vat and if you want to pay by card they are 5% above the total bill. This does not make the head start at other eateries in the city or in the rest of Uganda. The food and the rooms were boring !! Wouldn't recommend or visit this hotel again !!
This colonial era property is located in the Kampala central district with major business offices located within 20 mins walking distance.
The rooms are decent but lack cleanliness.
The staff was nice and the services are ok.
There is an Indian restaurant attached to the hotel which you can try if hankering for Indian food.
There is also a pub / disco next to the hotel which at night is noisy and filled with hookers .
One major security concern of staying here is the ease with which the hookers are allowed entry to the accommodation areas..
During my week long stay here, every morning I noticed skimply clad girls sitting in the common area outside my room smoking cigarettes..
This made me very worried about my luggage and valuables left in the room..
That being said, the place has it's own charm and deserves a chance.. provided the management improves the facility and services ..
Good place for Indians & other countries as well. Serves Authentic Indian, Italian food etc. Feels good to be at a place where you get Indian Food. Food is tasty as well. Hotel also located in the centre of city and is easily accessible.
At first, I thought I was booked at the Speke's by Lake Victoria. But realized it was in Kampala town. This hotel is modest in size of rooms but if you like historic hotels like I do, you will find it charming! The rooms were remodeled recently and are nice (I have stayed in several hotels in Uganda). This is the oldest hotel in Uganda and is across the street from the Sheraton (the back of the Sheraton faces this hotel). Breakfast was very nice and there are three restaurants attached. Although there was no spa, right behind the Spekes is Serenity Spa and I had a pedicure there. They were very good and have extra care. Spekes Hotel is in a great location!
Try it sometime!
The staff is very approachable, helpful, very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable regarding places to visit in Uganda. The breakfast was good, additionally, breakfast is substantial, and suited all tastes. The suites are very good with comfortable furniture and the bed was comfortable too. The hotel is very clean throughout, and the rooms are spacious with everything that you may need. The hotel is quiet, and is situated near to numerous restaurants, and quick to get supermarket, and within easy walking distance from markets around. You will enjoyed your stay at your hotel. Surely you will have a wonderful experienc and good hospitality.
Very good Indian restaurant Khybarpass best Indian food in Kampala. Staff are friendly great Service.
It s not so expensive and it s located in the city center with great security
Over priced. it's not hotel. lodge or motel. Still Indian owner running this hotel? worst hotel ever.
Services are good, though some of the facilities need quite an improvement.
My first room 123 had a deplorable disgusting shower that don t work. This needs to be addressed. Also the AC unit needs to be cleaned. The second room 110 was much better.
The hotel hosts live music bands outside until midnight and it makes sleeping impossible.
The spaghetti I ordered was impossible to eat and because of too many chili peppers. If restaurant misprints a bill, they don t want to fix it.
Desk staff isn t friendly. The bellhop was great. Buffet breakfast was good.
Old time Portugese style colonial property. The toilets in rooms do not have hand faucets. The electric sockets are close to floor and not convenient. No fan in the rooms. No lift; but only G+ 1 floors. Road side rooms have disturbing traffic noise. OK for short business stays.
Positive is close to city center. Breakfast menu include Indian, Continental and local Ugandan choices. Well maintained.
Very poor services;worst security;I lost my 3000 USD ; please avoid this place
I went on a business trip to Uganda and stayed in Speke Hotel, That was the first trip i am leaving my country, India so i was a bit nervous but the people at the hotel were kind to help me out in all the ways they can. I met few Indians working at the hotel, they were so friendly during my stay. There was an Indian restaurant and a bar attached to the hotel. Food and beer was really great !!
Old style colonial hotel near the Kampala CBD, opposite the modern high-rise Sheraton and its large park. Rooms comfortable and well-furnished, with parquet floors and old-time charm, but lacking in some respects as could be expected from a hotel with this rating. For example, there are no kettles for making tea and coffee in the smaller rooms. The room in which I was had a working airconditioner (hooray!), which unfortunately had only one setting: arctic blizzard. So I resorted to wearing a warm pullover. It's either that or open the window for a breeze from outside and be exposed to traffic noise. Another disappointment: an emailed confirmation of booking was apparently lost: upon arrival, we were informed we were not booked.
Amazing place with very supportive staffs. Had a very good time here.
I would chose this place a million times for a romantic night out
