About Sikika

Sikika is a non-governmental organization, its history dates back from 1999. The organization has transformed from working on matters related to youth in reproductive health to broader fundamental health outcomes in areas of Health Governance and Finance, Human Resources for Health, Medicines and Medical Supplies and HIV and AIDS. The new five-year strategic plan (2019 – 2023) is duly informed by the strategic plan 2016 - 2020. It has two programmes, which are the public finance management and the traditional health governance program.

Sikika is a non-governmental organization that has been working towards improving health outcomes in Tanzania since 1999. Over the years, the organization has transformed from focusing solely on youth reproductive health to broader fundamental health outcomes in areas of Health Governance and Finance, Human Resources for Health, Medicines and Medical Supplies, and HIV/AIDS.

The new five-year strategic plan (2019-2023) is duly informed by the strategic plan 2016-2020. It has two programs which are Public Finance Management and Traditional Medicine. The organization's mission is to promote good governance practices in the health sector through advocacy, capacity building, research, monitoring and evaluation.

Sikika's work focuses on ensuring that public resources allocated for healthcare are used effectively to improve access to quality healthcare services for all Tanzanians. The organization works with various stakeholders including government institutions at national and local levels as well as civil society organizations.

One of Sikika's key focus areas is Health Governance and Finance. This program aims to promote transparency and accountability in the management of public resources allocated for healthcare services. Through this program, Sikika advocates for increased budget allocation towards healthcare services while also monitoring how these funds are utilized.

Another area of focus for Sikika is Human Resources for Health. This program aims to address the shortage of skilled healthcare workers in Tanzania by advocating for increased investment in training programs as well as better working conditions for existing healthcare workers.

Sikika also works towards improving access to essential medicines and medical supplies through its Medicines Program. This program advocates for improved procurement processes that ensure availability of quality medicines at affordable prices while also promoting rational use of medicines among patients.

Finally, Sikika's HIV/AIDS Program focuses on advocating for increased funding towards prevention efforts while also promoting access to treatment options among those living with HIV/AIDS.
