Safe Sitter, Inc. - Empowering Youth with Life and Safety Skills

Safe Sitter® is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to teaching youth life and safety skills for over 35 years. The organization was founded in 1980 by pediatrician Dr. Patricia A. Keener, who recognized the need for young babysitters to have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children.

Today, Safe Sitter® is a nationally recognized program that has trained over 1 million young people across the United States, Canada, and Bermuda. The program is designed for youth ages 11-14 who are interested in babysitting or staying home alone.

The Safe Sitter® curriculum covers a wide range of topics including child development, behavior management techniques, injury prevention, first aid & rescue skills, choking rescue techniques, fire safety & prevention strategies as well as basic business practices such as setting fees and marketing services.

The program consists of both classroom instruction and hands-on training which allows students to practice their newly acquired skills in realistic scenarios. Students also receive a comprehensive student handbook which serves as an ongoing reference guide long after they complete the course.

One of the unique aspects of Safe Sitter® is its focus on empowering young people with confidence-building tools that help them make informed decisions when faced with challenging situations while caring for children or being home alone.

In addition to its core curriculum offerings, Safe Sitter® also offers specialized courses such as "Babysitting Basics" which provides an introduction to childcare concepts for younger students ages 11-12; "Safe@Home" which teaches older students ages 13-14 how to stay safe when they are home alone; "CPR & First Aid" which provides certification in CPR & First Aid; "Advanced Child Care Training" which covers advanced topics such as special needs care; among others.
