Their children were running freely around the shop, not being supervised, that isn't what I have in mind when I come to get a tattoo. As I was getting my tattoo, the kid came up and was playing with some bandaging on the table, then proceeded to drop it on the floor, and the lady just put it back on the table. This was extremely unsanitary and unprofessional. Makes me question how they run their tattoo shop. Not everyone is okay with children running around and screaming. I will not be coming back nor will I recommend this place to others.
Another edit: after taking off my bandage, I notice that some of the lines on my tattoo are not straight and are wiggly. This is not a good shop to go to, tattoos are not quality.

Edit (reply): When it says “family business,” to me that doesn’t necessarily mean kids are running around the shop unsupervised. It would’ve been fine if they stayed in the waiting area, but in the actual tattooing area is not okay and is an issue of safety. A tattoo is an open wound. Children are unsanitary and touch everything. Classic example of parents being careless and entitled! Also, how do you properly “clean” a bandage? Bandages like that are one time use and don’t belong on the floor, let alone a kids hands. This is my first bad review, I just want people to avoid this situation and question the hygienic practices of this shop.

I got a memorial tattoo here for my grandmother that is also my first tattoo and I had a extremely pleasant experience. I would for sure be coming to these guys whenever I am having a tattoo craving :) you guys rock!

Met the lovely family today, and got a gorgeous cattoo! Friendly, professional, real! Despite my pain induced curses, they still laughed, and new friends were made!

Both artists are amazing, artwork is beautiful and they left a positive lasting impression. Great accomodating artists and even better people.

Absolutely wonderful experience at this beautiful Tattoo shop and Art gallery. The family that own and run it are so lovely and talented! My husband got exactly what he envisioned and was so impressed by the meticulous work! Would highly recommend!! Also if you're looking for some new decor for the house have a peak at their momma's beautiful paintings!!

Got a matching tattoo with my mom, they were friendly but I wasnt too happy about the quality of tattoo we received which is unfortunate because I've seen other pieces of work that turned out much better, wouldnt return.

I love this place! Once in Nanaimo, it is minutes from the ferry! Easy to find, easy to find parking. Dima and Julianna loooove walk-ins and made us feel welcome from the second we got there. The place is also an art-studio with so much unbelievably unique art! I was amazed at the idea of the walk-in art classes with the talented artist Alla Yevdokimova. However, that day I was celebrating my birthday on the island and wanted something special. Julianna allowed me to create my own tattoo and she did it exactly how I wanted. I think she is a mind reader. They gave me the accessories for my tattoo to heal fast, and now a month after I am so happy I went there! Everyone compliments me on my choice of art on my skin, and I m definitely coming back for more! It s not just a tattoo, it s an experience on its own! The place is clean, welcoming and one of a kind. Both Dima and Julianna go out of their way to make sure you get the tattoo you like, how you like it and do it with the best attention to detail I ve seen. They re my go-to place, plus I get to see the island! I wish I could give them more stars!

Julianna is brilliant at what she does. Her artistic design is great and her ability to change an image in to an amazing tattoo is extremely impressive. She is a visual artist, (with a passion for drawing), gone tattoo artist and let me tell you, this is a winning combination.
Having had several long sessions with Julianna, I can say that she is very professional and is a very good listener. She will take your ideas and create a one of a kind tattoo masterpiece. Her shop is very clean and tidy which is a 'must' for a great tattoo studio.
She does really nice line work as well as beautiful colour work. My tattoos are full of colour which blend together, she did and amazing job, I am so happy!
After several tattoos with her, I am already booked for more and I can't wait. 'Red Cat Tattoo and art studio' is yet another gem in our great North. :)

Had an awesome tattoo experience @Red Cat! We were scheduled in right away, after our original shop had cancelled. My two sisters and I had our parents original handwriting ( I love you ) tattooed on us and we absolutely LOVE IT! We couldn't be more impressed with the work and the positive experience we had at the studio. We will be coming back to Red Cat for tattoos in the future!

Julianna artistic abilities are outstanding! She is able to create your wearable art from a few conversations that surpasses anything you could have imagined. Her studio is comfortable for all providing great conversation as she gives you the tattoo better than in your dreams! She will digitally show you how it will look on your body before placing the stencil incase you want additional changes. Always accommodating schedules and ideas - you will not be disappointed with her work.

WOWOWOWOW I cannot say enough about how amazing my experience was here. I've driven by this little studio quite a few times since moving back home and it definitely sparked my curiosity. My friend and I came in for walk ins at 530pm and I was not expecting to have as much fun and as much laughs as I did that night. I've gone to two other tattoo artists before coming to Red Cat and I genuinely had this impression that all tattoo artists were rude and that all my tattoo experiences would be uncomfortable. BUT Juli and Dima were so accommodating of our last minute tattoos and my ideas came out perfectly on the first draft. Then it was straight to the tattoo. Was so quick and comfortable and the lines are so so so clean!! When it came time for my friend to get hers done they were super awesome about tweaking the design to get it just perfect, which they DID!! We all had a blast hanging out while she got tattooed and it was awesome to get to hang out with such great REAL people! I didn't have any other tattoos planned after the ones I just got but I am absolutely on the hunt for my next piece now! My friend and I left and were seriously speechless we were so happy with them. I wouldn't go anywhere else in Nanaimo.

Unfortunately I had a bad experience with the wife. She did not listen to what I wanted at all. She claimed she drew me an image but when she showed me it was computer mountains and other computer images she just copy and pasted in, ( she drew nothing) and it didn t look even similar to what I wanted. Therefore I asked her to start on an easier image as I wanted two tattoos from her. The finger print heart she made again looked nothing like the image that I gave her and she was trying to make each thumb print about 8 inches each. I told her this isn t anything like what I showed her and she just stared at me. I ended up asking for my 100 deposit back and leaving. Biggest waste of an hour....
she decided to respond just now.. try s to justify drawing nothing and using copy and paste. Handed me a for to fill out but the second page was a previous clients, apparently I m in the wrong for crossing out someone else s name on my forms. Real covid safe, she wasn t wearing a mask. I didn t want something just copied off the internet and she clearly couldn t handle that. Unprofessional and clearly untalented.

I ve gotten two tattoos done so far by these awesome people! They are so friendly and have so much talent, I would recommend anyone to go to them. :)

Me and my family went here for our tattoos. 2 of us were getting our first tattoos and I actually almost fell asleep. They are super gentle and nice and they draw amazing artwork. I would totally recommend them to anyone wanting to get some beautiful work done

I got my first tattoo here on my neck, and they were able to make the perfect stencil out of it with what I wanted which was botanical but with lilies. It was also perfect placement and exactly what I envisioned and then some. I could not say enough about the terrific service as I walked through the door and the reassurance I received from them. Couldn't be any more satisfied with my first tattoo, Thank you! they were also very professional I came into my appointment a bit early and they were very understandable about it and I was able to use the time wisely. Beautiful paintings too.

They are AMAZING!! I cannot recommend them enough. Very professional, wonderful people. They took the idea I had and made it a hundred times better than I could have imagined. So nice to talk to, and did I mention their art is stunning?? My parents ended up loving their work so much they went and got some tattoos done too! Also my aunt and my grandma lol. These 2 are an incredible team. I do not have a very creative mind so I needed some guidance with my ideas to complete a half sleeve. Juliana was honest and able to take one look at my existing pieces and figure out exactly what I needed to complete it. Dima worked very efficiently to get it done and it turned out far nicer than I had imagined. Great and talented people. Will be coming back here and recommending Red Cat Studio to others!!

I came to this place on my 30th birthday, and wanted a simple tattoo on my rib cage. I did not have a plan or a sketch, and I wanted my own handwriting. Julianna helped me choose the variation, recommended the thickness, went slow and was very informative on the after care. She recommended products and put a high quality sticker to protect the skin afterwards. I have not had the same level of care and professionalism elsewhere. It was a nice gift to myself and a lovely island memory. Highly recommend Red Cat Tattoo in Nanaimo!

I've been coming to Red Cats just over two months now and have been working with Dima on my floral half sleeve. Not only are they all outstanding artists but they make you feel at home,aren't pushy, and listen to your requests. "Mamma" is an incredible oil painter also!! The shop has an old world feel to it with hand-painted flowers and warm colours, always clean and professional. I've already recommended several people to them and they are always grateful and welcoming. Absolutely would recommend!!

I went in to get 3 smaller tattoos and I was enjoying myself so much I ended up getting a 4th! I'm so happy to know Julianna and Dima, not only for their work but for their sweet souls. I'm sad to see them leave the Yukon so soon after meeting them, but I would highly recommend them to anyone!
