Public Narrative is a non-profit organization that has been working for over 25 years to connect communities with the media and ensure that all voices are represented in journalism. The organization was founded on the belief that everyone deserves to have their story told, regardless of their background or circumstances.
At Public Narrative, we believe that journalism plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion and driving social change. We work to empower individuals and communities by providing them with the tools they need to tell their own stories and advocate for themselves.
Our programs are designed to help people from all walks of life develop the skills they need to become effective communicators. We offer training in everything from writing and storytelling to media relations and social media management. Our goal is not only to help people tell their own stories but also to equip them with the knowledge they need to navigate today's complex media landscape.
One of our flagship programs is our Community News Matters initiative, which aims to strengthen local news coverage by supporting community-based journalists. Through this program, we provide training, mentorship, and resources for journalists who are working on stories that matter most to their communities.
We also offer a range of other programs designed specifically for journalists at all stages of their careers. Our Media Mentorship program pairs experienced journalists with emerging reporters who are looking for guidance as they navigate the industry. We also offer workshops on topics like data journalism, investigative reporting, and multimedia storytelling.
In addition to our training programs, Public Narrative also works directly with news organizations across Chicago (and beyond) through our consulting services. Our team of experts can provide guidance on everything from audience engagement strategies to diversity initiatives.
