About Play for peace

Play for Peace brings together children and adults in communities affected by conflict, using cooperative play to create laughter, compassion, and peace.

Play for Peace: Bringing Joy and Harmony to Communities Affected by Conflict

Play for Peace is a non-profit organization that aims to promote peace and harmony in communities affected by conflict. The organization uses cooperative play as a tool to bring together children and adults from different backgrounds, cultures, and religions. Through play, the participants learn to communicate, collaborate, and respect each other's differences.

The idea behind Play for Peace is simple yet powerful: when people play together, they build relationships based on trust and understanding. By creating a safe space where everyone can express themselves freely without fear of judgment or discrimination, Play for Peace helps break down barriers that divide communities.

The organization was founded in 1996 by two American peace activists who wanted to make a difference in the lives of children affected by war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Since then, Play for Peace has expanded its reach to more than 20 countries around the world.

Play for Peace believes that every child deserves the right to play and have fun regardless of their circumstances. Whether they live in war-torn regions or impoverished neighborhoods, children need opportunities to laugh, learn new skills, and make friends.

Through its programs and initiatives such as Global Games Initiative (GGI), Community-Based Training (CBT), Youth Leadership Program (YLP), Playful Pedagogy (PP), etc., Play for Peace provides training materials & resources along with support & guidance so that anyone can start their own local chapter of this global movement.

Global Games Initiative (GGI) is an online platform where people from all over the world can connect with each other through games designed specifically for promoting peace-building skills like communication & collaboration among players from diverse backgrounds.

Community-Based Training (CBT) program provides training materials & resources along with support & guidance so that anyone can start their own local chapter of this global movement. This program empowers individuals within communities affected by conflict or violence with the skills and knowledge to create safe spaces for play and learning.

Youth Leadership Program (YLP) is designed to empower young people with the skills and knowledge they need to become leaders in their communities. Through this program, young people learn how to organize events, facilitate workshops, and lead play sessions that promote peace-building skills.

Playful Pedagogy (PP) is a training program for educators that teaches them how to incorporate cooperative play into their teaching practices. By using games and activities that promote communication, collaboration, and empathy among students, teachers can create a more inclusive classroom environment where everyone feels valued.

Play for Peace has received numerous awards & recognitions over the years for its work towards promoting peace & harmony in conflict-affected regions. The organization has been recognized by UNESCO as a "Best Practice" model for promoting intercultural dialogue through cooperative play.

In conclusion, Play for Peace is an organization that believes in the power of play as a tool for building bridges between communities affected by conflict or violence. By creating safe spaces where children and adults can come together to laugh, learn new skills, make friends & build relationships based on trust & understanding - Play For Peace aims at creating a world where everyone lives in harmony with each other regardless of their differences.
