Our Town Belfast is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to supporting local businesses, preserving the heritage of the town, and bringing together the community. The organization was founded in 2009 with a mission to revitalize downtown Belfast, Maine.
Belfast is a small coastal town located in Waldo County, Maine. It has a rich history dating back to the 18th century when it was first settled by European immigrants. Over time, Belfast became an important center for shipbuilding and commerce. Today, it is known for its vibrant arts scene, local food culture, and beautiful natural surroundings.
At Our Town Belfast, we believe that supporting local businesses is essential for creating a thriving community. We work closely with business owners to provide them with resources and support they need to succeed. This includes marketing assistance, networking opportunities, and access to funding programs.
We also recognize the importance of preserving our town's heritage. We work closely with historic preservation organizations to protect our historic buildings and landmarks from demolition or neglect. By doing so we ensure that future generations can appreciate our town's unique character.
In addition to supporting local businesses and preserving our heritage we also strive towards bringing together members of our community through various events throughout the year such as festivals like "Belfast Harbor Fest" which celebrates all things maritime or "Maine Celtic Celebration" which honors Irish & Scottish traditions through music & dance performances as well as workshops on traditional crafts like weaving or blacksmithing.
Our Town Belfast has been successful in revitalizing downtown by attracting new businesses while maintaining its historic charm; this has led us being recognized nationally as one of America’s top ten “Great Neighborhoods” by The American Planning Association (APA) in 2012.
We are proud of what we have accomplished so far but there is still much more work ahead! Our goal remains steadfast: To continue building upon what makes Belfast unique while supporting local businesses, preserving our heritage, and bringing together the community.
