Opportunity Insights: Empowering People to Rise Out of Poverty

Opportunity Insights is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to identifying and addressing the barriers that prevent people from achieving economic opportunity. The organization was founded by a team of economists, social scientists, and policy experts who recognized the need for evidence-based solutions to address poverty in the United States.

At Opportunity Insights, our mission is clear: we want to empower people throughout the United States to rise out of poverty and achieve better life outcomes. We believe that everyone deserves access to economic opportunity, regardless of their background or circumstances.

To achieve this mission, we focus on three key areas:

1. Research: We conduct rigorous research on the causes and consequences of poverty in America. Our research helps us understand why some people are more likely than others to experience poverty, as well as what policies and programs can help reduce poverty rates.

2. Policy: We work with policymakers at all levels of government to develop evidence-based policies that can help reduce poverty rates and increase economic mobility. Our policy recommendations are grounded in our research findings and are designed to be scalable solutions that can be implemented across different communities.

3. Outreach: We partner with community organizations, schools, businesses, and other stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of economic opportunity for all Americans. Through our outreach efforts, we aim to build a broad coalition of supporters who share our vision for a more equitable society.

Our Approach

At Opportunity Insights, we take an interdisciplinary approach to addressing poverty in America. Our team includes economists, sociologists, psychologists, data scientists, policy experts, and other professionals who bring diverse perspectives and expertise to our work.

We also prioritize collaboration with other organizations working on similar issues. By partnering with academic institutions like Harvard University (where Opportunity Insights is based), as well as non-profits like Robin Hood Foundation or government agencies such as HUD (Department Housing & Urban Development), we can leverage each other's strengths towards common goals while avoiding duplication efforts or competing against one another unnecessarily.

Our research focuses on understanding how different factors contribute towards inequality within society - including education level attainment gaps between races/ethnicities; geographic disparities; family structure differences; health outcomes disparities - so that we may identify effective interventions which could improve these conditions over time through targeted investments into specific areas where they're needed most urgently!

Our Impact

Since its founding in 2018 by Raj Chetty (a renowned economist) along with Nathaniel Hendren & John Friedman (both professors at Brown University), Opportunity Insights has made significant progress towards achieving its mission:

- Conducted groundbreaking research on topics such as intergenerational mobility (the ability for children born into low-income families today) compared against those born into higher-income families decades ago); racial disparities within educational attainment levels among students attending public schools across US states;

- Developed innovative policy proposals aimed at reducing inequality within society through targeted investments into specific areas where they're needed most urgently;

- Partnered with community organizations across various sectors including education systems like KIPP Public Charter Schools Network or healthcare providers such as Boston Medical Center;

- Raised awareness about issues related not only around income but also around race/ethnicity/gender identity etc., which affect opportunities available individuals have access too;
