Great organization, they do a wonderful job at training their employees and getting into communities and informing citizens about current issues. They work hard to raise money and awareness for current issues. Thank goodness for organizations like this that can help raise awareness and help voice concerns to local politicians.

I was assaulted in 1999, after "staff night" at the Toledo location. The managers allowed it to happen. I have a permanent facial scar as a result. Also, this organization was a fraud while I was working there. We would go door to door and ask for money for a phony charity, and we would all pocket half of the money we collected. I think part of the reason I was assaulted is because I pointed out the the organization was a fraud.

Following this organization over the years has always proved valuable. Statewide consumer, industry and health issues critical to be informed of or join in on always available..website is hefty with information. Great place to volunteer or get involved locally

This place is a scam. They do nothing but collect money and hold signs. Door to door campaigners get to pocket 50% of the money you give them while the phone callers work on commission. Don't give them any money.

Place is a SCAM. I got called about an "internship" with them along with five of my classmates. During the interview come to find out, it's door to door sales basically. You're going door to door, no matter the time (mainly at night when people are home from work) asking people to support some left-wing democratic cause and give you money. Best of all...it's "college credit" ...pretty much slave labor. I'd rather clean the toilets or scrape gum off a gym bench. Save yourself the time and beer money from going downtown.

Rely on these students and volunteers to simplify complex issues, and hold American corporations and our politicians accountable while working for the public interest in Ohio.

I started working here as an 18 year old with very radical political views, but hardly any understanding of how government and democracy operate. At 21 now and still working at OCA, here is my review.
Not only is the pay better than any job I could get at this age with no degree, working here helped me develop my skills as a professional worker by lifting me up as an individual during a tough turning point in life, promoting me to higher level positions, and helping me to move away from the idealistic (admittedly sometimes conspiracy-driven) attitude I came in with. I have a more advanced approach to critical thinking when it comes to policy, I have confidence, and I have probably the best leadership training under my belt at a very young age. I'm very grateful for the experience I got here.

I worked with Ohio Citizen Action in the mid 1990s after canvassing for several years with Greenpeace. I was immediately impressed with their much more thorough training and with how they wanted me to take on a leadership role as soon as I was ready. The other thing that really impressed me was how focused and goal-oriented they were. Every night, we were expected to knock on so many doors, reach so many people, get so many signatures, recruit so many members and get so many letters or postcards. It was made clear to me that my performance every night was connected to how effective the organization was and that made me really feel part of something. I ended up canvass directing in Columbus for a year before leaving to try my hand at other non-profits, but then years later I came back when a program director position opened up. I've been back since 2007 now and am so proud to be investing in a new generation of activists and building the organization for its next incarnation.
