Mishkan Chicago: A Progressive Jewish Spiritual Community
Mishkan Chicago is a unique and inclusive spiritual community that offers a welcoming space for people of all backgrounds to connect with their Jewish heritage. Founded in 2011, Mishkan has quickly become one of the most vibrant and dynamic Jewish communities in the city, attracting members from all over the world who are seeking purpose, inspiration, and connection.
At Mishkan Chicago, we believe that Judaism is not just a religion but also a way of life. Our mission is to create an environment where people can explore their spirituality and connect with others who share their values. We offer a wide range of programs and services designed to meet the needs of our diverse community.
One of our core values at Mishkan is inclusivity. We welcome everyone regardless of race, gender identity or sexual orientation. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone feels safe and supported as they explore their spirituality.
Our services are led by Rabbi Lizzi Heydemann who brings her unique perspective on Judaism to our community. Rabbi Lizzi's approach emphasizes social justice issues such as racial equality, LGBTQ rights, environmentalism among others which makes her sermons thought-provoking and inspiring.
We offer weekly Shabbat services that are open to everyone regardless if you're new or have been attending for years. Our Shabbat services include traditional prayers mixed with contemporary music which creates an uplifting atmosphere that will leave you feeling energized for the week ahead.
In addition to our weekly Shabbat services we also offer High Holiday Services which attract hundreds from across Chicagoland area every year including Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) Yom Kippur (Day Of Atonement), Sukkot (Feast Of Tabernacles), Simchat Torah (Rejoicing In The Law) among others.
We also have various programs throughout the year such as classes on Jewish history & culture; meditation sessions; social justice initiatives; holiday celebrations; family-friendly events among others which provide opportunities for members to learn more about Judaism while connecting with other like-minded individuals in our community.
At Mishkan Chicago we understand how important it is for young people to feel connected with their heritage so we have created programming specifically geared towards children & teens including Hebrew School classes & Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation courses taught by experienced educators who make learning fun!
Our commitment towards Tikkun Olam - repairing the world - extends beyond just words but into action through partnerships with local organizations working towards social justice causes such as homelessness prevention efforts or food insecurity initiatives among many others
