Macrostie Winery: Crafting the Finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on the Sonoma Coast
Steve MacRostie is a name that resonates with wine enthusiasts all over the world. He is a pioneer in winemaking on the Sonoma Coast, and his legacy lives on through Macrostie Winery. Established in 1987, this family-owned winery has been crafting some of the region's finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for over three decades.
At Macrostie Winery, we believe that great wines are made in the vineyard. That's why we work closely with our growers to source only the best grapes from carefully selected sites along the Sonoma Coast. Our winemaking philosophy is simple: minimal intervention and maximum expression of terroir. We let nature take its course, allowing our wines to reflect their unique sense of place.
Our flagship wine is our Wildcat Mountain Vineyard Chardonnay, which consistently receives high scores from critics and wine lovers alike. This wine comes from a single vineyard located at an elevation of 1,400 feet above sea level on Sonoma Mountain. The cool climate and volcanic soils produce grapes with intense flavors and vibrant acidity.
Another standout wine from Macrostie Winery is our Thale's Vineyard Pinot Noir. This wine comes from a small vineyard located just two miles from the Pacific Ocean in Annapolis, one of California's coolest growing regions for Pinot Noir. The combination of maritime influence and well-drained Goldridge soils produces grapes with complex flavors and silky tannins.
In addition to these flagship wines, we also produce several other varietals that showcase different aspects of our terroir. Our Russian River Valley Chardonnay offers a more fruit-forward style than our Wildcat Mountain Vineyard Chardonnay but still maintains excellent balance and complexity. Our Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir blends fruit from several different vineyards along the coast to create a harmonious expression of this classic varietal.
At Macrostie Winery, we are committed to sustainability both in our vineyards and in our winemaking practices. We use cover crops between rows to promote soil health, minimize pesticide use through integrated pest management techniques, conserve water through drip irrigation systems, recycle all grape pomace into compost or animal feed after pressing juice out during harvest season among other sustainable practices.
