Lapsteal is a mobile app for iOS and Android that combines running with territory-claiming gameplay. Users run closed loops on a live city map, and the enclosed area becomes their claimed territory, marked with a chosen color and emoji. Other runners can steal claimed territory by running loops over it, and the app provides real-time notifications when a territory is taken. The app tracks metrics such as hectares claimed and loops closed, and includes global, city-wide, and friend leaderboards. The user's raw GPS route is kept private, with only the shape of claimed territory visible to others.
