About Kogi bbq

The most iconic Los Angeles and Orange County based taco truck that birthed the Korean Mexican taco movement and put the godfather of food trucks, Roy Choi, on the map.

Kogi BBQ: The Iconic Taco Truck that Revolutionized the Food Industry

Kogi BBQ is a Los Angeles and Orange County-based taco truck that has become an icon in the food industry. Founded by Roy Choi, Kogi BBQ is credited with starting the Korean Mexican taco movement, which has since become a popular cuisine across America.

The story of Kogi BBQ began in 2008 when Roy Choi, a classically trained chef who had worked at prestigious restaurants such as Le Bernardin and RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen, decided to start his own food truck. He wanted to create something unique that would reflect his Korean heritage and the multiculturalism of Los Angeles.

Choi's idea was to combine traditional Korean flavors with Mexican street food staples like tacos and burritos. He experimented with different recipes until he found the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, savory, and tangy flavors that would appeal to both Korean and Mexican palates.

The result was a menu featuring dishes like short rib tacos with salsa roja, kimchi quesadillas with sesame soy vinaigrette, spicy pork burritos with lime crema, and tofu tacos with chili-soy glaze. These fusion creations quickly became a hit among Angelenos who were looking for something new and exciting.

What made Kogi BBQ stand out from other food trucks was not just its innovative menu but also its use of social media to promote itself. At a time when Twitter was still in its infancy, Choi used it as a tool to announce where his truck would be parked each day. This created buzz around Kogi BBQ's locations and helped it build a loyal following.

As word spread about Kogi BBQ's delicious food and unique concept, other chefs started taking notice. Soon enough, Korean Mexican fusion cuisine became a trend across America. Today you can find similar dishes on menus at restaurants from coast to coast.

Despite its success over the years โ€“ including being named one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people in 2016 โ€“ Kogi BBQ remains true to its roots as a humble taco truck serving up delicious fusion cuisine on the streets of LA.

In addition to serving customers at various locations throughout LA County every week (which can be found on their website), they also offer catering services for events such as weddings or corporate events!

If you're ever in Los Angeles or Orange County area make sure you stop by one of their trucks for some amazing eats!
