Well run little pub, always has a great atmosphere. Really well kept real ales and a good local selection on tap. Mix of students and locals and can get very busy in the evening as it's right in campus. Bar staff are almost always prompt (within reason its a popular place) and friendly. Pizza and a drink is always a good deal, warm and filling, one of my favourite haunts when I studied here.

Great small bar. They usually have drinks offers aswell.

Typical student pub. Smelt like B.O, drinks cheap, the students boring and easily insulated with their left wing views. The question is would I go back... if I was in the area then yes I would go back

Great atmosphere and really fun pub quiz on Tuesdays, just get there a couple hours early to guarantee a seat.

Best pub in Plymouth for youngish people, I reckon. just had an excellent referb. love the jsv; great staff, great prices, late opening, amazing jukebox, tasty pizza. but don't come and ruin the ambience for me by overcrowding it.

Quirky and fun. Pool table and a variety of drinks. Well recommended.

Not a lot of love has gone into the building for the past 10 years at least. The prices are decent and it's not a bad place to go but there are nicer places with a better atmosphere not far.

Lovely place, it is hidden away in the uni grounds so you think it will be full of students but it isnt, it is actually nice and chilled.

Can be very busy and difficult to get served but great bar.

Student pub (on campus). Decent selection of drinks. Sometimes quite loud. Pool table in the back and pun quiz on a Monday night

Great place. Tuck yourself into a nice pizza after a few bevvys. Jukebox, pool table, clean pipes , great staff. Friendly venue.

For one of the best cheapest chill nights in Plymouth the jsv is the best doubles for 2 quid and it's full of lovely people that are great to have a random convo about anything

This is our go to pub. Good for quiet pints and boozey nights.

Most enjoyable. Partly the company and then, pleasant staff.

A friend of mine (27 years old) didn't have her ID with her, so staff took her (full) pint of beer away from her. My friend left the bar to get her ID. Getting back to the bar with her ID some 10 minutes later, she asked to have the pint back. The staff didn't want to either give her back the pint, or to reimburse it, and wanted to charge her for a new one. EDIT: The manager got back to us and agreed that it was not admissible, and even offered free drinks. I am not sure we will claim them, but at least this shows a genuine attention to fixing wrongs. So I've raised this review to a neutral 3 stars.

Went here for a pint with a friend and the atmosphere was pretty good. I love how it closes at 2am which is perfect for university students.

Extremely friendly staff, really good prices and one of the best places to play pool at while at a pub. Their home made pizza's are amazing and a must have when having a few drinks.

Bit narrow but nice vibe in the place. Nice pizza as well.

Too crowded, couldn't hear anything anyone said and very studenty. Prices weren't great and options were limited.

Nice small pub situated on the doorstep of the university . Almost a nice hide away from the rustle and bustle from other nightlife .
Great for groups or those one to ones , even just to pop in for a drink or two everyone welcome.
Open till 2am each day . juke box to play the songs you want to hear for a small price along side a pool table which is used by all.
Great staff who are well up on recommendations if you want to try a new drink or drink different shots.

My go to pub after work for a pint or two. Friendly staff, nice mix of patrons and decent prices for the selection of drinks they offer. And please try their pizzas if you feel hungry :)

Quiz night is the highlight for me here. Great vibes just make sure you get there early enough to get a seat.

Cute little pub with real character, not like the big chain pubs like Wetherspoon.

Lovely old fashioned pub.(traditional) , staff always helpful and polite.Y family have been using this pub since war times as bunker was close lots of history x

Good atmosphere and good music from.live band however the usual problem of queuing for ages at the bar for a drink.....more staff required?

Visit with mate to revisit our main pub of our apprentice days. Afternoon visit. Not many in but looks good.

Thursday night's are fantastic value. Pool table in back.

Great bar, surprising not too many student even though it backs onto the campus.

They also serve pizza, although I must say I've never tried them.
