Platreef Project
The Platreef project is located in South Africa's Bushveld Complex and is one of the world's largest undeveloped platinum-group metals (PGM) deposits. The deposit contains an estimated 26.8 million ounces of PGMs, as well as gold, nickel, and copper.
The Platreef project has been designed to be a large-scale underground mine with an initial production rate of 4 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa). The mine will use mechanized mining methods to extract ore from underground tunnels.
Kamoa-Kakula Copper Project
The Kamoa-Kakula copper project is located in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and is one of the world's largest high-grade copper deposits. The deposit contains an estimated 43.5 million tonnes of copper at an average grade of 2.6%.
The Kamoa-Kakula project has been designed to be a large-scale underground mine with an initial production rate of 6 Mtpa. The mine will use mechanized mining methods to extract ore from underground tunnels.
Kipushi Project
The Kipushi project is located in the DRC and was previously operated by Ivanhoe Mines between 2011 and 2013 before being placed on care and maintenance due to low commodity prices. The deposit contains zinc, copper, lead, germanium, silver, and cadmium.
Ivanhoe Mines plans to restart operations at Kipushi using modern mining techniques that were not available when it was last operational. This includes using long-hole stoping for primary stopes instead of cut-and-fill stoping used previously.
