In Mulieribus: Strengthening Community Through the Art of Music
In Mulieribus is a Portland-based female vocal ensemble that has been making waves in the music industry since its inception. The group is dedicated to strengthening community through the art of music, and they have been doing so for over 20 years.
The name "In Mulieribus" comes from a Latin phrase that means "among women." This name reflects the group's commitment to showcasing the power and beauty of women's voices in choral music. In fact, all of their performances feature exclusively female voices, which sets them apart from many other choral groups.
One thing that makes In Mulieribus unique is their focus on early music. They specialize in performing works from the medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, which are often overlooked by other choral groups. This allows them to bring new life to these beautiful pieces and introduce them to audiences who may not be familiar with this type of music.
Despite their focus on early music, In Mulieribus also performs contemporary works by living composers. They have commissioned several new pieces over the years and continue to support emerging composers through their work.
In addition to their performances, In Mulieribus is also committed to education and outreach. They offer workshops for singers of all ages and skill levels, as well as educational programs for schools and community organizations. These programs help promote a love of choral music while also fostering a sense of community among participants.
Overall, In Mulieribus is an exceptional ensemble that has made significant contributions to both the local Portland community and the wider world of choral music. Their dedication to showcasing women's voices in early music has earned them critical acclaim and a devoted following among fans around the world.
