The NECA/IBEW Electrical JATC, also known as IBEW Local 16, has been a leading provider of electrical training and apprenticeship programs in Southwestern Indiana and Wabash County, Illinois since its establishment in 1944. With over seven decades of experience in the industry, IBEW Local 16 has earned a reputation for excellence in providing high-quality education and training to aspiring electricians.
At IBEW Local 16, we believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to pursue their passion for electrical work. That's why we offer comprehensive apprenticeship programs that provide hands-on training and classroom instruction to help individuals develop the skills they need to succeed in this field. Our programs are designed to equip students with the knowledge and expertise required to become licensed electricians.
Our apprenticeship program is a four-year course that combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction. During this period, our students work alongside experienced electricians who guide them through various tasks such as installing wiring systems, troubleshooting electrical problems, reading blueprints and schematics, among others. In addition to practical experience gained on job sites across Southwestern Indiana and Wabash County Illinois; our students attend classes at our state-of-the-art facility where they learn about safety practices; National Electric Code (NEC); motor controls; programmable logic controllers (PLCs); fire alarm systems; low voltage systems; renewable energy sources like solar panels or wind turbines.
We understand that each student has unique needs when it comes to learning. That's why we offer flexible schedules so that our students can balance their work commitments with their studies effectively. We also provide financial assistance through scholarships or grants for those who qualify.
Apart from our apprenticeship program, we also offer continuing education courses for licensed electricians looking to expand their knowledge base or renew their licenses. These courses cover topics such as code updates; safety regulations; new technologies like LED lighting fixtures or smart home automation systems.
At IBEW Local 16, we are committed not only to providing quality education but also ensuring job placement opportunities after graduation from our program(s). We have established partnerships with local contractors who hire graduates from our program(s) regularly.
