Human Needs Project: Empowering Communities through Clean Technology
Human Needs Project is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of people living in slums by providing them with access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and other basic necessities. The organization was founded in 2008 by Tennyson E. Chen, an entrepreneur who saw the need for a sustainable solution to the problems faced by people living in slums.
The Human Needs Project operates on the principle that every human being has basic needs that must be met in order for them to live a dignified life. These needs include access to clean water, sanitation facilities, healthcare services, education, and economic opportunities. Unfortunately, many people living in slums do not have access to these basic necessities due to poverty and lack of infrastructure.
To address this problem, Human Needs Project has developed a unique solution called Kibera Town Centre (KTC), which is a water-based clean technology project that aims to insert utility-community centers into slums. KTC provides residents with access to clean drinking water through its state-of-the-art filtration system and also offers other services such as healthcare clinics, computer labs for education and job training programs.
One of the key features of KTC is its sustainability model which ensures that it can continue operating even after initial funding runs out. This model involves generating revenue from various sources such as renting out space within the center for businesses or events like weddings or conferences.
