Houston Angels is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of children, youth, and families who are facing difficult circumstances. Statistically speaking, children in foster care face overwhelmingly negative outcomes. They are more likely to experience poverty, homelessness, unemployment, incarceration and mental health issues than their peers who have not been in foster care. However Houston Angels believes it doesn't have to be this way. By providing support and resources for these children and families through various programs such as mentorship programs or holiday gift drives they can make a direct impact on their lives.
The organization's mission is simple yet powerful: To provide love and support for children in foster care by building relationships between volunteers (Angels) and families in need. Houston Angels believes that by creating positive relationships between volunteers (Angels)and those they serve they can help break cycles of abuse or neglect.
One of the ways Houston Angels accomplishes its mission is through its "Angel Reach" program which provides mentorship opportunities for youth aging out of foster care. This program helps young adults transition into adulthood by providing them with guidance on life skills such as budgeting or job searching while also offering emotional support during what can be an overwhelming time.
Another way Houston Angels makes an impact is through its annual "Holiday Gift Drive". During this three-day event from November 30th - December 2nd each year volunteers come together to collect gifts for children who may not otherwise receive any during the holiday season due to financial constraints within their family unit. This event has become one of the most anticipated events within the community as it brings people together from all walks of life with one common goal; making sure every child feels loved during what should be a joyous time of year.
Houston Angels also offers a "Family Support" program which provides resources and support for families who are struggling to make ends meet. This program offers assistance with basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter while also providing emotional support through counseling services or mentorship opportunities.
