Headwaters Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to create a healthy and thriving Western Montana by supporting resilient families and children. The foundation believes in a new kind of philanthropy that goes beyond traditional charity work, focusing on long-term solutions to social issues.
The foundation was established in 2016 by a group of community leaders who saw the need for an organization that could address the root causes of social problems in Western Montana. They wanted to create an entity that could bring together resources, expertise, and passion to make lasting change.
At Headwaters Foundation, we believe that everyone deserves access to basic needs such as food, shelter, education, healthcare, and safety. We also believe that these needs cannot be met through short-term solutions or handouts. Instead, we focus on building strong communities where families can thrive and children can grow up with opportunities.
Our approach is based on three pillars: collaboration, innovation, and impact. We collaborate with local organizations and individuals who share our vision for a better future. We innovate by seeking out new ideas and approaches to solving social problems. And we measure our impact through data-driven evaluation methods.
One of our flagship programs is the Resilient Families Initiative (RFI), which provides support services for families facing economic hardship or other challenges such as addiction or mental health issues. RFI offers case management services tailored to each family's unique needs along with financial assistance for basic necessities like rent or utilities.
Another program is the Early Childhood Education Initiative (ECEI), which focuses on improving access to quality early childhood education in underserved areas of Western Montana. ECEI partners with local schools and childcare providers to offer training programs for teachers along with scholarships for low-income families.
In addition to these programs, Headwaters Foundation also supports various community projects such as affordable housing initiatives or environmental conservation efforts.
