It started off normal as hiring on to trucking companies can be mostly. They take care of the equipment pretty better than most trucking companies I ve seen. It goes horribly wrong once I m told that I would be paid hourly instead of the normal percentage rates like everyone else. The CEO calls me into the office to and says he wants to try out the hourly rate just on me to see how things would work out. Being hired out of Nashviile TN, the guys ran hourly because they ran regional routs. I didn t run regional but OTR. The hourly pay was considerably lower than all of the other OTR drivers. Once I made mention the CEO calls me back to explain. He lowers all of the percentages to justify the hourly compensation. The problem, I was already aware of the normal percentages from the dispatchers assigning loads. From what I heard while there, Shorty (the original owner) understood the position drivers faced. The CEO is a numbers guy that seeks solely to take care of the investors. The company has changed hands and the investors are reaping awesome benefits directly at the expense of the drivers that make everything possible. Being a company driver here could have been great had the owner not remained. Should you decide to hire on, ensure it s profitable. If your truck is paid off and you re already way ahead financially then it s not a bad move. Most of the dispatchers are great. There is one in particular that has major ego issues and runs off good drivers. She s been there for years and they are very familiar with her antics. Once refusing a load wit her sends her off the charts down the road of passive aggression. She has to have her way so be careful. Why they ve retained her with so many complaints only they know. I wouldn t consider working with Grammer as a company driver or owner operator still paying off a truck.
