About Grameen Koota

CreditAccess Grameen Limited was born out of the need for timely and affordable credit to India’s poor and low-income households.

Grameen Koota: Providing Financial Inclusion to India's Poor and Low-Income Households

CreditAccess Grameen Limited, popularly known as Grameen Koota, is a leading microfinance institution in India. The company was founded in 1999 by Vinatha M. Reddy with the aim of providing timely and affordable credit to the poor and low-income households in rural and semi-urban areas of India.

Over the years, Grameen Koota has grown into a trusted financial partner for millions of people who were previously excluded from formal banking channels due to lack of collateral or credit history. The company's mission is to empower these underserved communities by providing them access to financial services that can help them improve their livelihoods and break out of poverty.

Grameen Koota operates through a network of branches spread across 13 states in India. The company offers a range of financial products such as microloans, insurance, savings accounts, and remittance services tailored to meet the specific needs of its customers. Its loan products are designed for income-generating activities such as agriculture, livestock rearing, small businesses, and home improvement.

One unique aspect of Grameen Koota's approach is its focus on women empowerment. The majority (around 90%) of its borrowers are women who are often marginalized in traditional patriarchal societies. By providing them access to finance and training on financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills, Grameen Koota aims to enable these women to become self-reliant and take control over their lives.

Apart from its core business operations, Grameen Koota also engages in various social initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of its customers. For instance, it runs health camps where customers can receive free medical check-ups and treatment for common ailments like diabetes or hypertension. It also provides education scholarships for children from low-income families so that they can continue their studies without interruption.

In recognition of its efforts towards promoting financial inclusion among underserved communities in India, Grameen Koota has received several awards over the years. In 2019 alone it won three prestigious awards - 'Best Microfinance Institution' at the Banking Frontiers Finnoviti Awards; 'Social Impact Award' at ET BFSI Awards; 'Microfinance Organisation Of The Year' at Indian Microfinance Awards.

In conclusion,Grameen kotta has been instrumental in bringing about positive change among millions living below poverty line by providing them with access to finance which would have otherwise been impossible.Their commitment towards empowering women through finance coupled with social initiatives aimed at improving overall well-being makes them stand out amongst other micro-finance institutions operating within india .
