Global Citizen Year is a non-profit organization that offers a unique gap year program for high school graduates who want to make a difference in the world. The program provides an opportunity for young people to immerse themselves in a new culture, learn new skills, and gain valuable experience while making a positive impact on the community.

The Global Citizen Year program is designed to help students develop leadership skills, explore their passions, and become more globally aware. Participants spend nine months living with host families in Brazil, Ecuador or Senegal where they work on community projects and learn about local customs and traditions.

The program includes intensive training in leadership development, language immersion, cultural competency and social entrepreneurship. Students also receive mentorship from experienced professionals who help them navigate their personal and professional goals.

Our Approach

Our Programs

We offer two main programs: The Global Citizen Academy (GCA) which is designed for high school seniors looking for an immersive gap year experience before college; And The Global Fellow Program (GFP) which is designed for college-aged students looking for an international internship experience during their summer break or semester abroad.

The GCA program runs from August through May each year while GFP runs during summer breaks or semesters abroad depending on student availability. Both programs are open to applicants from all over the world regardless of nationality or background.
