GeekGirlCon is a non-profit organization that aims to promote and celebrate the involvement of women in all aspects of geek culture. From science and technology to comics, sci-fi, fantasy, fiction, gaming, and more – GeekGirlCon is dedicated to creating a safe space for women to express their love for all things geeky.
Founded in 2010 by Erica McGillivray and Jennifer K. Stuller, GeekGirlCon has grown into a thriving community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for geek culture. The organization hosts an annual convention in Seattle where attendees can participate in panels, workshops, cosplay contests, gaming tournaments, and more.
But GeekGirlCon is more than just an annual event – it's a movement. The organization works year-round to create opportunities for women to connect with each other and with industry professionals. Through its various programs and initiatives, GeekGirlCon strives to empower women by providing them with the tools they need to succeed in their chosen fields.
One of the key goals of GeekGirlCon is to increase representation of women in STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) fields. The organization recognizes that there are still significant barriers preventing many women from pursuing careers in these areas – including gender bias and lack of access to resources. To address these issues head-on, GeekGirlCon offers scholarships for young girls interested in STEM fields as well as hosting workshops on coding and other technical skills.
