It lives up to the hype! Wonderful space. Great pieces. Expansive, but not overwhelming to enjoy in a single visit. If you enjoy modern art or want to be exposed to it in a comfortable environment this is a good spot for both.
There is a small cafe on site, but there is also an area perfect for a picnic if you'd like to bring your own.
Note the date of my review (7/2/21). They are requiring advanced online tickets be purchased for a specific time/date to assist in social distancing. Another thing of note is that at the current time MASKS ARE REQUIRED notwithstanding one's vaccination status (you MUST keep them fully on while inside, yes, even for photographs). But it was worth it for us despite being fully vaccinated. Get out and enjoy!

Really like the installation arts and interpret the ideas behind each piece on my own way. Easily spent 2 hrs to walk through all exhibits.

Loved this place. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I love how the window to visit isn't forced, because the windows of visitation are only about an hour which is too little for a place this massive. Lots of art and artists all under one beautiful roof. This space was a former Nabisco cracker factory. Its far away and theres not much to do nearby but this place itself is very fun to visit with friends/family.

Fabulous space! This is inside an Old Nabisco Factory. This is about a 10 minute slow walk from the Beacon MetroNorth station. Even if you don t like the artwork in this museum you will love the space it s in. Just the energy in the place was amazing! They have a cafe you can grab a quick bite too with outdoor space. I highly recommend this museum as a day trip from nyc. It s about 1.5 hours from Grand Central Terminal! Check it out!

Definitely recommend to visit this place if you are interested in contemporary art. Huge collection of established artists' work includingpainting, sculpture, installation, land art etc. Be prepared to walk! Reservation in advance is required. If you visit from New York, there is between 2.5 to 3 hours of commute expected.
There is a Cafe at Dia Beacon location in case you need to eat or drink after your visit. There's also a bookstore on-site.

It's modern art, so if you are unfamiliar, come with an open mind! My favorite were the very large structures by Richard Serra. Make sure to go inside. The museum itself is a little confusing in its layout, since there's no set intuitive path to follow, so I suggest doing something I didn't: use the map that they provide. You want to make sure you don't miss any of the exhibits. There are QR codes on the walls which you can scan for more information on the pieces.

They make great use of the enormous (I mean enormous) space. Some terrific installations and exhibits. Some of the permanent collection, meh, but worth sailing through. Makes for a wonderful afternoon upstate. The basement is a must-see sound and light installation, fantastic.

Dia Art Foundation: A Contemporary Arts Organization
Dia Art Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports, presents, and preserves contemporary art. The foundation was established in 1974 by Philippa de Menil, Heiner Friedrich, and Helen Winkler to help artists create ambitious projects that might not otherwise be realized due to financial or institutional constraints. Dia's mission is to provide long-term support for artists whose work transcends traditional boundaries and engages with the world in new ways.
Dia has two main locations: Dia:Beacon in Beacon, New York, and several sites across the American West. Dia:Beacon is a museum located on the banks of the Hudson River that houses Dia's collection of art from the 1960s to today. The museum occupies a former Nabisco box-printing factory that was renovated by architect Richard Gluckman into a stunning exhibition space with natural light pouring through skylights and windows.
The American West sites are located in New Mexico, Utah, and Nevada. These sites are unique spaces where visitors can experience large-scale installations by some of the most important artists of our time. The remote locations offer an opportunity for contemplation and reflection on art's relationship to nature.
Dia's collection includes works by some of the most influential artists of our time such as Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, Robert Irwin, Agnes Martin, Michael Heizer among others who have created site-specific installations at various locations across America.
In addition to its permanent collection exhibitions at both locations (New York & American West), Dia also presents temporary exhibitions featuring emerging or established contemporary artists working across different media including painting sculpture photography video installation performance sound among others.
One notable example is "The Broken Kilometer" (1979) by Dan Flavin which consists of one thousand eight-foot-long fluorescent tubes arranged vertically along an entire wall creating an immersive environment where visitors can experience light as materiality rather than just illumination.
Another example is "Double Negative" (1969-70) by Michael Heizer which consists of two massive trenches cut into a mesa near Overton Nevada creating an awe-inspiring landscape intervention that challenges our perception of scale space time matter energy gravity etc..
Dia also offers educational programs for all ages including guided tours artist talks workshops lectures symposia publications etc.. These programs aim to foster critical thinking creativity curiosity empathy collaboration communication cultural awareness environmental stewardship social justice etc..
