Dance/NYC: Promoting the Art of Dance in New York City
Dance/NYC is a non-profit organization that aims to promote the knowledge, appreciation, practice, and performance of dance in the metropolitan New York City area. The organization was founded in 1996 and has since been working tirelessly to support and advance the dance community in NYC.
The organization's mission is to provide resources and opportunities for dancers, choreographers, educators, presenters, and audiences alike. Dance/NYC believes that dance is an essential part of our cultural heritage and should be accessible to everyone regardless of their background or socioeconomic status.
One of Dance/NYC's primary goals is to increase public awareness about dance as an art form. The organization achieves this by organizing events such as performances, workshops, conferences, forums, and symposiums. These events bring together dancers from different backgrounds and disciplines to share their experiences with each other.
Another important aspect of Dance/NYC's work is advocacy. The organization advocates for policies that support the growth and sustainability of the dance community in NYC. This includes advocating for increased funding for arts education programs in schools as well as advocating for better working conditions for dancers.
Dance/NYC also provides valuable resources such as grants, scholarships, job listings on its website (www.dance.nyc), research reports on various aspects of the dance industry (such as diversity or economic impact), a directory of dance companies/organizations/studios/schools/venues/etc., a calendar listing upcoming events related to dance across NYC area.
In addition to these services provided by Dance/NYC itself directly through its website or events it organizes; there are many other organizations that partner with them regularly including but not limited too: American Ballet Theatre (ABT), Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (AAADT), Brooklyn Academy Of Music (BAM), Lincoln Center For The Performing Arts Inc., Joyce Theater Foundation Inc., New York Live Arts Inc., among others.
Overall if you are looking for an organization dedicated solely towards promoting knowledge about all things related specifically within this niche field then look no further than DanceNYC!
